Lote Tuqiri thread

You would think the signing of Lima and Tuqiri would have a significant impact on season ticket and membership sales.

Once this thread hit 50 pages I had my doubts…there is a lot of unsubstantiated talk in this thread and little else. I don't believe anyone would be deliberately leading anyone down the wrong path (dont shoot me down Anderson fans) but it would appear things may have changed or been misinterpreted........dunno just get the feeling the longer this drags the less likely.

The problem was that Benji had an existing contract. Gallop saal id that a person contracted to an NRL club cannot sign a deal with a rival code. If Tuqiri signs for a union a club and then signs for us, this problem <big>doest</bigexist. The situation would be no different than if we went and signed say Matt Giteau for 2012.

Does….or doesnt?

A bit e/w?

He cant be contracted to union & then sign for us.

....The Tigers are prepared to let him play union abroad but are hesitant to let him play as long as May next year.

Any deal is sure to be closely scrutinised, with NRL chief executive David Gallop confirming on Friday night it would not register a contract with the Tigers if Tuqiri also had a deal to play UK rugby.

"If he is off contract from rugby union, he is free to sign with an NRL club," Gallop said.

I can smell another Ma Nonu situation….and there is no way Lima would be silly enough to sign a contract with us, having not yet been released by the storm....which may not happen

Iam sure they are both done deals, just a matter of getting them and a new sponsor all together for a big photo shot and media splash and as Sheens and Lima are 12000km away it may take a few weeks. Could be wrong but all the little leaks all point to a double signing. Lotte may still have a stint playing rugby before the season kicks off, but it will be a short one. Any third party sponsor would want full value and not half a season

This thread is more over the top than the mystery prop one was, though at least this time we have a name I guess.

whos fault is that?

the members of this forum are their own worst enemy.. they create the hype, now they have to live with it.. its not as if the topic is in the media every 5 seconds… or any other forum for that matter.. and yes im guilty of it as well.. im as keen as anyone to know if he is coming.. except im not getting frustrated by it... im just anxious...

Quite clearly a Typo, but you knew that didn't you?

Read what Gallop actually says, not how foxsports interpret it. If he is off contract from Union he can sign with an NRL club. If Lote signs to play with an English club for 6 months, then he is off contract at the end of that stint. Following what Gallop said, he can be signed by us. Otherwise Gallop puts himself in an impossible and contradictory situation. After all, Tahu signed with the Eels before his contractual duties with the ARU were completed.

Evidence:

''It would be great to have Lote back playing rugby league,'' Gallop told Fairfax.

''He just has to be registered by the 30th of June. What we said before with a player like Benji Marshall is he can't be under contract to both codes at the same time.
>
"He [Tuqiri] couldn't sign with a rugby league club and then sign with rugby union. As long as it wasn't a contrived arrangement … we'd just have to be satisfied it wasn't a case of a player being under contract with both codes.
>
**"He could be under contract with rugby union and do a deal with an NRL club,''** Gallop said.

love right up their with the Lincon Withers thread a few years ago

wow, that brings back memories

we were close to signing him too
when was that, 2004?

he is currently "unsigned" to anyone "officially" but if he signs a nrl contract first then signs a union contract i dont know if the NRL can stop it can they if he has the nrl clubs permission?

how ever if he had signed a union contract first then the NRL have every right to not register his NRL contract. but can they de register him for having a second job? do they de register others who have a second job?

Gallop is all over the place. those 2 statements conflict…. or am I just being retarded?

08/09 - "He could be under contract with rugby union and do a deal with an NRL club.'"
24/10 - "If he is off contract from rugby union, he is free to sign with an NRL club," Gallop said.

that isnt contradicitng mate..

if he is under contract till a certian time he can then sign another after the first expires.. he can sign two contracts if he wants as long as they dont overlap

im not sure why people find that hard to understand

Exactly!

And Benji's overlapped because we wanted to have him on the books from 2008-2011, letting him play in Japan in 2009\. Hence concurrent obligations to both Union and League.

Have just been advised by the club that the new Membership packages hope to be announced
Friday maybe we will hear something then !!

"just waiting on a pending decision of the stadium locations for our home matches in 2010\. Please keep your eye out at the end of this week for the 2010 Membership Packages launch at weststigers.com.au, we are hoping for Friday."

Sounds like the club is 95% sure of this at this stage, we don't do do things by half nor 100 % 95 sounds like a good figure

It's highly probable that he did, but because it's ink, you know you have to make sure you get everything perfect, or he gets upset.

In any case i'd like this soap opera to come to a close, quickly.
