it has me baffled as to why WT are continuing with this charade.

More and more chances to get Lote picture in a PROTON CARS Wests Tigers Jersey in the paper perhaps…..it's a joke really,....I hope I'm wrong, but our team doesn't need him...save the money , don't sign the SideShow.....LIma & Fui...well thats something else

Well….I wuldnt say dont sign him, he's big, fast strong talented....could be very good for us.
I just wonder if we'd have bought all those other wingers/outside backs like Daniella, Fitzy Tupou and Brown....seems a very lopsided recruitment drive...5 or 6 winger/fb...1 half, one prop, one untried bckrwr.

I too would prefer some more props...

We get no promotiong him, no guarantee over medical stuff, no pre season, no learning the team's drills, no pre season fitness / UK rugby is light years behind NRL fitness.

And you know this…..how?

Besides CNX post above, I cant believe the majority here can't read between the lines.

Paper says....(paraphrasing) "Tigers have got Tuqiri but cant admit it because of the NRL's stupid rule that they wont register a player who is signed to NRL and then does a guest stint in Union"

Lote then quickly says...."Oh hang on woah up there boy I want to 100% refute that I have signed with the Tigers"

Then straight away WT say "We want to make it CLEAR that we have not in any way (that is written in NRL stupid rule) be it verbal or written made an agreement with Lote...no...no way.....and by the way we 100% agree to stick by the NRL's stupid rule that a player cant come to terms be it verbal or written and then play a guest stint in Union...so ...ummm.....yep.....NO WAY have we agreed with Lote"

All paraphrasing of course.

I have been very and naturally sceptical about our chances of getting Lote, but after hearing today's back and forth I am actually convinced now he is coming. The WT statement is as close as you will get for now to a press conference announcing his signing.

Gee, it's not what i get from all of that…,i get he hasn't signed, Humphries is a supporter of the NRL and it's rules and Tuqiri goes and plays in England at his own risk...,no gaurentees.
But i'm excepting that what our CEO and Tuquri are saying is the truth and are people of their word, especially Humphries.

And it's still up in the air.

Mate, it's not about being simple people - it's about taking people at their word - especially when its the CEO of the organisation we are supporting.
I'd rather believe what Humphries has been quoted saying on a official statement to be the truth and not part of some conspiracy - that's just me

Your missing cnx's point to sourthern tiger, that this isnt a flexible signing, under the rules we cannot promote him at all until his union commitments are over, he IS at risk of injury, he does NOT get to partake in pre season training.
simple people eh…..

Some very messy posts here, may I suggest people preview them before submitting, it makes it very difficult to read when quote tags are chopped off.

Those who dont think this deal is basically ironclad obviously have little experience in business affairs. Thats not meant as an insult just a perceived fact. These kind of deals are common place in the business world and the response from both Tuqiri and club suggest, to me anyway, that we have him.

Great work by all concerned, allowing Tuqiri to play rugby will also help his conditioning.

How do I know all this mate? Because that's what it says. If we do sign him, we can't do anything official, mention him, promote, he won't train with us, he won't come until March next season. What if his Rah Rah team make the finals? They'll likely want him for until May.

And what are you going to do if he breaks his leg in the UK? Pay him $400 000 to watch games at LO and visit kids in schools wearing a Tigers shirt?

Look, he'd be a good signing. But the bloke should commit NOW. He just got a $1.2 million pay out from the ARU and he's already a multi. Show a bit of commitment. This is a big deal for a club like ours. That extra sponsorship takes a hell of a lot of putting together. I am friends who sponsor the club and I can tell you 100% that the club often comes cap in hand asking for $. I already know one bloke who's openly saying he won't be giving it next time. Just show a bit of commitment and do a pre season. Most people here just see "Lote is a star" and are enamoured with that. There's a hell of a lot more behind the scenes at a footy club that goes on. $400 K for a guy who hasn't played for 7 years and is heading off to cash in even more by standing on the wing in the UK and laughing. Meanwhile, our blokes on $75 000 a year will be busting their nuts all pre season. Welcome to Tigertown Lote, but show some commitment.

Then ask yourself WHY Humphries chose to quote the NRL rule about guest stints in rival codes immediately after stating we had no tsigned an agreement. Other then winking, I dont think he could have made it clearer..

this is all dependant on how long he signs to union for of course remember andrew johns signed a $600k deal for 10 games or something like that in the ESL?

well lotes could be the same, i mean what if he only signs a 12 game deal worth 300k? hed be back by feburary and ready for the trials.

just be happy we finally have signed a marquee player

Just wow mate. This is not you delivering potatoes to the local grocery store.Business my arse.

This is a legal quagmire. He can't be registered with the NRL. That means he can't officially be a Wests player until March / May 2010.

So, who pays for him if he breaks his leg in the UK? He can't legally register with the Tigers until he finishes over there. So, who pays the bills? Who pays his salary if he can't play for us until August due to an english rugby injury?

You are dead set kidding linking this to your business experience.

So this makes Humphreys a liar according to plenty around here…

Maybe next week eh?

no it just means he is speaking out of circumstance instead of truth. if he announces we have signed lote then lote goes and plays union they can refuse to register his contract for the whole 2010 season. like i said be happy we finally have a marquee signing

thats the risk lote is takin IF he does infact play union, WT wont have to pay him a cent if he hurts himself playing union, and like i said before whos to say lote wont only sign a 12 match deal? be back by feb and good to go for round 1, be happy and dont always think of the worst possible outcome

Why do you think this will occur. Naive to think the club would allow a contract that could give rise to such liability for no reward.

BTW just re-read humphreys statement and it is almost like that statement was written by a lawyer, it was a very technical statement and seem to cover WT @sses, so that lotes contract wont be at risk of not being registered when the time comes, like i and many have said just read between the lines and it will all make sense.
