**Tigers still sure they'll get their man**
Margie McDonald From: The Australian November 04, 2009
WESTS Tigers were hardly thrilled Lote Tuqiri has opted to play rugby union before a possible return to the NRL, but the club is still confident he will be playing in its colours next season.
>
Confirmation came yesterday from Leicester Tigers that Tuqiri had chosen to play for the central England rugby union club.
>
British newspapers said the deal was short-term, allowing Tuqiri to switch back to the NRL next year.
>
Leicester's season does not end until May 8\. But the club wants the dual international to stay until the end of the Six Nations tournament (February 6 to March 20), when it is drained of its representative players.
>
The NRL season starts the week before on March 12.
>
Wests Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys yesterday denied the Sydney club had signed Tuqiri to a deal, despite widespread rumours in the league community that it is a three-year offer worth $1.2 million with third-party sponsor agreements added in.
>
**"We don't have a deal with Lote – we hope to secure one still -- but right now we don't," Humphreys said.\
\
He said the news from Leicester did not put his club out of the frame.\
\
"It's not our preference to go and have a rugby stint," Humphreys said.\
\
"Now we just have to think about our next move.\
\
"I won't rule anything in or out at present.\
\
"The good news is that we now know what Lote is doing in the immediate term.\
\
"Now that he's come out and said he's got a rugby deal in the UK, we're going to have discussions on whether we can still get a deal on the back of that.\
\
"We'll just have to see how that goes."**
>
Leicester coach Richard Cockerill said to have someone of Tuqiri's stature -- capped 67 times for the Wallabies -- was a real coup.
>
"Lote had interest from a lot of clubs around Europe, and the fact he chose to come here says a lot about him," Cockerill told the club's website.
>
"We're very happy he has chosen Leicester Tigers."
>
Press reports in the UK said Tuqiri had chosen Leicester because its deal was worth more than those by London Irish and French club Toulon.
Well..........the Lortay express continues to roll.........At best I don't think he will be here for Round 1.....
Think about our next move........Good Luck Stephen.....
