LOTE...Under the High Ball

…..has me looking down everytime....

He is not alone but if I was the opposition Coach the gameplan would be simple...Hit up for 5 and BOMB to the winger..Problem is though Wests Tigers defusal of kicks is a major concern...

Thoughts?

He was terrible but Ryan dropped them as did Mitch Brown.

I think we need some work on this aspect of our game because I reckon they can all take them.

Agreed, it was a real nightmare last night, we are going to get peppered next weekend. Hopefully they'll do a heap of practice in that department during the week.

I'm more concerned about the Panthers game coming up though, they score the bulk of their tries off kicks.

It's been the case all year! And teams know it now!

One point for me is that most teams look really smart in running interference to protect the bloke catching the ball, while we look confused and scared to do so which usually results in every bomb being contested 50-50, unfortunately… the player running is always going to have a leap advantage thought so we are always in trouble...

Not sure if this is the case... but it seems as though most bombs against us, end up with a contest... does that make sense? I dunno it's early

I always have my head down whenever a ball is kicked, by us or by the opposition.
My head is actually buried in my hands whenever there is a goal attempt

Needless to say, I dont actually see alot of the game :unamused:

Yes, he has some work to do under the high balls. When you look at how tall he his he really should be leaping above players much shorter than him. As I said in another thread, we have Penrith in a couple of weeks who have great success of bombs, if we don't start defusing these bombs, they'll pile on the points.

Normally he is good i don't see him as a concern.
The thing that concerns me with Lotte is his positional play in d, he comes in off his wing way too far and too much.

I have more faith in lote under the bomb than a lot of other backs. We are terrible at defusing bombs!

I don't know why you have more faith in Lote - I can't remember the last time he caught a contested bomb. The problem as I see it is the lousy job we do shielding our catchers. Every bomb seems to be a genuine contest or the other mob has more players around the ball. When other teams are defending it seems hard to get around the blockers to get to the ball.

Wasnt the best night for catching bombs last night as well.

But I agree our blockers dont know how to block to well

Lote, Brown and Ryan chalked up 6 errors between them last night, 2 each. Normally I don't worry so much when bombs go towards Lote, but he had an off night last night.

Might sound a bit harsh here, but I expect Lote to take every ball that comes his way. His experience in both codes, League and in Union, he was safe, reliable and I expected that to be one of his strengths that he would bring to the Tigers as not only being a big, strong, fast, athletic finisher but a player who Wests could rely upon to defuse an aerial raid from opposition teams. Although I completely concur with the 'blockers' comment. The inside men have to protect the winger when they go up for a catch. We're simply not doing that on either edge at present. Back to the drawing board. Must be rectified before the Penrith game otherwise it could be a long afternoon.

If Fitzhenry had have made any of those errors imagine the threads we'd have already!!!

Sheens has a kicking issue of another type to deal with heading into next Saturday's ANZ Stadium clash with Souths.
**Three of the four tries the Tigers conceded against Cronulla came from their failure to deal with high kicks.**
>
''We were pretty scrappy and piggy-backed them out of their own end numerous times, and gave them the opportunities to put up those attacking kicks that they scored their tries off,'' Tigers captain and hooker Robbie Farah said. **''They were pretty soft tries and that's something we have got to address.''**

Seems I was concerned for nothing…It's being addressed.. :unamused:

All three should be dropped for that poor effort!!

But I thought after we dropped Fitzy all our problems at the back would be solved??? 😱pen_mouth:

While we should be practicing these more at training, I think the bigger problem hear is where our supporting defenders are.

We would possibly be the worst team to protect it's back 3 in the NRL from the high kicks…
