Lui pleads guilty

From the cowboys… They have suspended Robert from playing indefinitely.

Cowboys halfback Robert Lui has today been placed on a two-year good behaviour bond and fined $2000 after pleading guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The incident, which involved his partner, occurred in September last year before Robert was a member of our playing staff.

Since arriving back in his hometown of Townsville, the Cowboys have provided Robert with on-going support and assistance which has included regular counselling.

Robert is responding very positively to those sessions.

It has helped motivate him to keep on a clear track and we have been told he will continue to benefit from regular counselling, as well as being in a very supportive club and family environment.

Before we signed Robert, we were aware of this pending charge and he admitted he had made mistakes in his life.

Since Robert has been with the Cowboys, he has been an exemplary trainer, a fine contributor to our club and has clearly indicated he wants to make a fresh start with us.

However, in conjunction with the NRL, the Cowboys have decided to suspend Robert from playing indefinitely after he pleaded guilty today.

The length of his suspension will be determined in due course with his rehabilitation remaining a high priority.

I'm pretty sure the Cowboys will announce his rehabilitation around the time either Thompson or Thurston get injured

Hope Big Sam Backo punches the s*** out of him,I know I would of if anyone had done that to my daughter.

Agreed mate. He needs a fair dinkum hiding for this.

What a gutless piece of crap. What a weak court system we have as well. That level of violence deserved a stint I reckon.

Reading that report just made me sick and the guy only gets good behaviour? Societal values are really skewed. Human lives (especially women's, I'm sorry to say) mean nothing, but God don't ever commit video or DVD piracy - you'll get 5 years for that!

"The 21-year-old player and his partner, Taleah Rae Backo, a niece of former Canberra, Brisbane, Queensland and Test prop, Sam Backo, will be offered counselling by the club," Wests Tigers said in a statement.

His son, Daniel Backo is currently signed to the North Queensland Cowboys.

not sure how recent that reference to D.Backo is, though it did make me laugh out loud.

If that is the case mate, then I expect to hear that Daniel has put this worms lights out some time in the near future.

While I backed his ability, he should have been sacked (or "released") from the first accusation.

The bloke has issues and really needs to straighten himself out. I can't cop violence against women. It's the lowest of low to belt a woman who is meant to mean the world to you just because you can't sort out an issue like an evolved human being.

For the sake of his kid, he needs to pull it together. The girl has to leave him though, once is enough.
