Lui steps out of line, again

Whats the big deal? at least he was doing something positive by signing autographs and talking to young kids. Its not like he was caught down the pub

I can understand the seasons not over… But realisticly,
What's the problem with getting his mind off things?
I'm sure it was hardly played to the calibre of an NRL match, and he was just goofing with the
boys!!
Far Out!! What's next?? Will we have players that can't play with thier kids in the park in thier time off....

the big deal is that he is contracted to play footy for us, he is currently suspended, and didnt get permission.

Had he sought permission and there was no other issues, it may well have been granted, but he didnt.

Injuries happen at these carnivals, so taking the risk without permission is not acceptable.

And i know people say the other incident is separate to this, it is not, given the situation if you are truely wanting the NRL Career, you have to be on your best behaviour, this is not best behaviour.

Suppose it doesn't help that the boys are clocked on until GF day as well

And just something else that stands out to me - the original story said the Tigers had been celebrating for three day…three days!!

No wonder at least one player got in trouble.

Last time I looked the guys hadn't won anything so I don't know what they were "celebrating".

I think every one needs to take a step back on this and see what will happen should the club sack lui.

1} we miss out on a damn good 1/2 back in the making, and he played really well in the finals.
2} we let him go and some other team step in and sign him wheres the issue with there sponsors and such.
3} we all hear how the clubs put these players through courses but at the end of the day they are only human, if any of you out ther belted ur wife would you lose ur job if you didnt go to jail ,not a chance.
4} iam not saying what he is reported to have done { not proved in court yet} is right be he who has not sinned at all throw the 1st stone.

1\. The allegations are very serious, and if proven guilty his footballing ability counts for zero
2\. If he is proven guilty no club will go anywhere near him. The NRL will most likely de-register him. Do you realy think with all the work the NRL do with women i.e women in league the NRL would allow another club to pick him up? they would de-register him. And there is a good chance he will be in jail
3\. The majority of us don't work in jobs that are in the public eye, that revolve around sponsers and fans. It portrays a pretty poor image wouldn't you say
4\. If he's found guilty i think people are entitled to throw as many stones as they want

The future of Robert Lui at Wests Tigers is in serious doubt after he fled to Queensland to play in an Aboriginal knockout tournament on the weekend without the NRL club's permission.

Last week Lui was charged by police with assaulting partner Taleah Backo after three straight days of post-season celebrations with Tigers teammates.

Club officials agreed for Lui to return to Queensland and be comforted by family and friends ahead of his October 7 court hearing.

But rather than keep a low profile, Lui took part in the inaugural Queensland Murri league carnival on the Gold Coast and inspired the Southern Dingoes to a 44-24 final victory over Purga Wagtails.

The three-day drug and alcohol-free carnival, organised by former Maroons great Tony Currie - and endorsed by the ARL and QRL - involved 20 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander teams and featured NRL players Chris Sandow, Dane Gagai and Yileen Gordon, and former star Nathan Blacklock.

The incident disappointed Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys, who was with Lui until 3am last Tuesday at Burwood Police Station, and he is keen for the 21-year-old to give an explanation when he returns.

"We have stood him down, so we were surprised he played in the tournament because the idea of him going to Queensland was to have some private time with family members," Humphreys said.

"We were made aware he was playing on Sunday, but he didn't seek our approval before doing so. We'll have a chat with him about it at some point. It won't be this week.

"I was surprised and disappointed, but maybe he had some encouragement from friends and family members to play.

"Whether we would have approved (his involvement) is a hypothetical, so I'd rather not speculate."

The Tigers have stood Lui down from all club activities and will await the outcome of his court hearing before deciding on his future.

Currie said Lui had played well for the Southern Dingoes, a team which also featured Lui's brother, but was unaware he would take part beforehand.

Southern Dingoes coach Selwyn Apanui said he was unaware Lui had not sought a clearance from the Tigers.

"He really wasn't pressured or questioned about any of the other issues, he was happy to play footy and enjoy the company of his brother and his mates," Apanui said.

All further discussion of Rob Lui must take place here:

I know the two incidents are separate but considering the circumstances I don't want two threads running.
