Luke Brooks #167

My only issue with Brooksey was the fact that he
never found his voice, or put his hand up at the very
least and said coach, I don't think I'm a 7. The club
and player mugged one another for a decade stretch
I agree Kaito if he knew he couldn't do the job at 7 why didn't he say so instead of wasting 10 or so years.

he did have a fair few coaches at the Tigers, 4 or so in his tenure. In hindsight one coach should have said to him you are playing 6 and go and recruit a 7 or he should have said it to the coaches.

Reckon if we'd have got a Decent 7 it would have went that way....
Tui Lolohea, Moses Mbye and the likes weren't a great help.
Moses went on to be a dominant 7, But that wasn't until a few years after he left us,
In a much better side, With a coach that worked for them.

I remember early on Gus Gould was commentating a Tigers game with Moses and Brooks in the halves...
remember it clear as day, he mentioned "It looks to me that both these boys are trying to play 7"
Someone should have got the hint back then maybe?

That said,
I don't put too much stock in needing a dominant 6 or a 7, Or the numbers at all....
It's just one side of the field or the other.
Last 7 we had before we had a 6 in 7 was Prince.
Benji did pretty well for us at 6 (Without a recognised half for the most part)
Maloney, Johnson and Plenty of others have also done well in either jumper with a solid foil...
Lockyer, Keary - Amongst others.

Brooks biggest issue at the Tigers was the Team he played in and the way it was coached,
A lot of those problems are still here....
They're pointed out plenty by Former players, The Reni Maitua comments last month were interesting....
He pointed out at marker, We're not even pushing the boundaries of what you can get away with - Markers standing dead square on top of each other and over the play the ball.... Basically, Not giving themselves a fighting chance in defence.
Wasn't just once he said - Was for the whole game.

That's coaching.... And engrained in this side.

Might be the type of bloke he is....
Just do what the coaches asked him to...
Plenty of blokes in life do whatever the bosses ask of them with no fuss.

It's not like we were oozing alternative options to take the 7 from him,
If he'd had a decent NRL coach in his existence at the Tigers, With a functional board or competent management - Who knows....
(History never will)

Yeah Jedi, several coaches, it makes it worse lol.
He didn't mind the cheque though. Happy 4 him

Isnt that why they bought Hastings to the club? I not sure Brooks was ever on board with Maguire.

Another post insinuating the money he ended up on, Is the money he started on....

Hastings was bought to the club through Sheens....
To be a lock!!

After 10 million Instagram posts, to convince the world he's an NRL 7
- Hastings is has been back playing lock (In reserve Grade)

Funny played plenty of 7 when he was here.

Yeah, but only one of those guys is playing this week to get into a prelim
So what... and why do people care so much about Brooks now he's at Manly?
Amazing to see so much butt kissing for a player that took advantage of being overpaid for so long ... then couldn't get out the door quick enough when offered his real worth.
Don't wish him bad luck or bad injuries but seriously glad he's not stinking up the halfback spot in our team.

He was awarded Dally M 7 of the year in 2018 you think he didn't think he was 7 then?

Benefit of hindsight I suppose. It's all ancient history,
we've got a blue chip #7 coming to Concord in '25.

@batboy yeah man. The old regime didn't help lol
