Luke Brooks #167

Great post. I said this out loud during the game.

The crash play for Twal has almost become a joke. You can see the players all wanting to be the bloke who assists him.

But he has had 100s of crash plays called for him in his career...many with simple one on one assignments to score.

And never has.

Seems like a great bloke and they all love him...but running a play that has failed 100s of times is not overly smart.

Wind up Pole or Blore and keep that play for them.
It's reminiscent of Paul Gallen getting in the way constantly.

LB didn’t lose us the game yesterday, he was shit but wasn’t alone. Our right side defence lost us the game and was found out hard and our man AD was a lamp post on two occasions. DL is also to blame for two of them as well. TT‘s defence as well as his handling was rubbish - he was playing injured/hurt.

BTW his missed tackle count was up but he was often the the first one to make contact and then fall off as the rest of the defence finished the tackle. I don’t recall any of his missed tackles leading to a break or try.

LB couldn’t win us the game yesterday, but he was involved in a lot of plays that got us momentum and the team failed to capitalise due to handling errors. He was shit at times as well no excuses.
AD did score 1st try that was a great run. But AD, API and DL also couldn’t win us the game neither. AD missed 2 GK’s as well.

The team was good in patches, let’s see how we go after a few weeks.
That's what happens when you have Kepaoa playing right second row for 60 minutes. He is nowhere near Blore's level defensively. Blore just can't stay on the field.

10 years and 1 game of a dumpster fire at half.

Complete inability to create space and constantly runs sideways, has zero idea how to create points, nowhere near good enough PERIOD. Cant perform the basic job of a half....... just give it time guys.

It’s only early but I will throw a curve ball in
Brooks to Centre
guy is very quick specially of the mark , he can defend head on ok
size if your quick enough won’t matter and he already does tackle the big guys coming at him
just a thought
It’s rare to get a head on tackle in the centre’s, and it’s the hardest place to defend of all. You’re dealing with more speed, more space and better footwork. Not for LB imo.

sad thing is he was much improved on last year
One of his best performances for sure. Probably rate him a 1.5/10. Just goes to show how he has performed in his other 180 odd games. Tigers have never had a chance to make the finals with him in the team. Cant drive a car without a steering wheel.

People can laugh but he really shows no quality halfback ability and all people talk about with him is defence and speed....

The best halfbacks do two things very well. A) They build pressure with their attacking options and last tackle plays and B) they play to the strengths of their team.

A) Yesterday our spine and mostly Brooksy threw away too many good ball chances. Big fail but hopefully fixable.

B) what are our attacking strengths? I believe this is the question that our coaches must be struggling with the most. Every which way we went we lacked class. I think in eight weeks time we’ll be looking to play more off Papali’i and Bateman on the fringes. Maybe a bit more pain and patience needed before Sheens and co work this out. Jahream Bula looked classy in reserve grade and I won’t be surprised if he ultimately gets a crack.

Bula scored a slashing 90m try yesterday….for a kid he is tall and athletic, he will be a weapon once his body fills out…I just dont see Laurie ever being a top shelf FB…he just doesn’t have the power in his legs nor the strength in his body…
