Luke Brooks #167

The short story is that the Magpies operated on the bones of their backside budget wise but still produced good teams and discovered superstars like Dorahy , Brown and Boyd that Manly would steal, sometimes only for the purpose of weakening the Magpies as a threat to Manly. Their chief executive Arthurson admitted to doing that.
The greatest afternoons of my football watching life were watching Wests bash Manly, then outplay them. It was a beautiful thing.
My hatred for Manly will never die.
What a time it was being up on the hill at Lidcombe watching our boys bash them mongs. The hatred for Manly will always run deep even if they had Benji Marshall playing for them. Only true Westies understand.

I feel quite stupid now because I always thought Brooks was 7 and Moses 6 in the Juniors. Just saw a highlight from an U19s SOO match where it was the other way around. Heard a few commentators say as well that Brooks has always been a 6.

Can anyone confirm that? Sound like a royalled stuffed up for 10 years trying to convert him to a 7...

I saw them playing SG Ball for Balmain. I'm sure Moses was playing 6 and Brooks 7.

Luke unfortunately is a one trick pony.
He's quick off the mark and strong through the hips so he can break a tackle.
Unfortunately, he showed that one trick a few times in his first game and lived off it for 10 years.
His downfall is that he's as smart as a red housebrick.
Red housebricks can't play in the halves.

DCE and the stronger Manly team make Brooks look good. Without DCE we see last week’s result. There’s a good possibility he will play finals footy for the first time in his career though and I’m sure there will be lots of Tigers bashing in the media over that.

That's what I always thought as well. Would be keen to see someone who's followed their careers to know how it was. It has been clear for the last 5 years that Brooks' best position is 6 and Moses 7.

Yes, Brooks was the 6 and Moses the 7. This goes way back to Sheenius's first stint. Sheens signed Brooks and wanted him as a 7 to replace Moltzen/Lui (both 6's). Sheens thought Brooks would complement Benji more than Moses and was a year or 2 ahead of Moses's development at the time.

Then Potter happened, Benji left, Moses came through leaving Brooks at 7 and the big 4 went to shit, Ivan signing garbage, Lee and Pascoe treating the club like their personal boys club, re-signing Sheens for a second stint, bringing in Benji, Brooks playing like shit for over a decade, the club dumping Tweedledum and Tweedledee, signing Richo and finally after 16 years since the Tigers last had a genuine half in Prince, the Tigers had the bright idea to actually sign a real life halfback in Luai who has been playing second fiddle to Cleary.

There’s really no difference if they’re both singing from the same hymn book. That’s when the magic happens.
Im surprised Brooks gets so much criticism on here?
He does his best to the coaches instructions as I see it.

Against Canberra, Galvin was kicking them higher and closer than Brooksie, so the chasers had a chance to cause chaos rather than turn up a bit late.
I agree with this, but no Manly player was even in the frame. Much like our kick and chase game earlier in the year.

He was probably instructed to test the young five foot tall South’s FB in the wet but 100% should have been kicking across to Saab all night.

Same people who carried on about Madge, and nothing changed when he left either. Some people just need a scapegoat or someone to hate on. Maybe they didn’t get told they were loved as kids. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Fact is NRL is 30 man squad and ours has been shite for a very long while.

I can’t count the number of times I’ve reminded them that it’s a TEAM game. 😜

So Sheens picks Brooks at 7, but Moses played 7 in the junior grades...
Arrrrrgggghhh!!!!
