Luke Brooks suspension

With Luke Brooks serving a suspension in round 1 due to an incident from his last game in 2015 I am baffled at the inconsistency of the NRL when it comes to what games can be used to serve these suspensions… I was just reading that Ben Hunt sat out of this mornings world club series match for the Broncos as he was suspended as a result of an incident in the 2015 grand final

i think grade 1 or 2 have to be served in season

anything higher can have some from off season counted

Yep, it sucks alright. The NRL is a massive lottery when it comes to rules and regulations,it looks like they just make it up on the fly.
How the hell is it even decided which teams get to play in this World Club Series garbage? Apart from the NRL premiers obviously, what is the method of deciding who gets to represent the NRL? Who foots the bill for the expenses incurred by Broncos and Roosters over there….the NRL? Good to see that poor,struggling clubs such as Rorters and Broncos get all of the bonus advertising opportunities and international exposure to boost their images (and in turn) bank balances.
It is a bloody disgrace.

Seems that way this year. Certainly wasn't last year. It'd be interesting to see if the NRL stuck to their "rule" if say the three teams were Penrith, Cronulla and Gold Coast.

I just found this online….
During the first Series in 2015, the NRL did not specify any specific qualification to play in the World Club Series. From 2016 however the three teams that qualify are:

Minor Premiership Winners
Grand Final Runners Up
Grand Final Winners
If a team were to win both Minor Premiership and Grand Final then the team finishing second in the league would qualify unless they reached the Grand Final in which case the third placed team would qualify.

See Rules 44A and 45\. World Club Challenge matches count but trials and All Stars games do not.

If you are serving a suspension for a grade one or two offence you can play in trial matches but they do not count towards your suspension. If you're serving a suspension for something worse then you are probably Tariq Sims, Greg Bird or Luke O'Donnell and you can't even play in the trials.

I think the logic is that people are supposed to care about the result in World Club Challenge matches as opposed to trials (i.e. you can actually "win" something, even if nobody cares about it).

Not having a go at you Nelson but if that is the NRL's criteria re off-season suspensions it is quite honestly s###. Ben Hunt is allowed to whittle away his suspension because he is playing a supposed "care factor" game as opposed to a meaningless trial game? The Broncos cannot 'win' anything in the World Club Series either-the result of theirs and Rorters matches are meaningless. The only team that can be World Club champions are NQ or Leeds.
Just sounds like another wishy washy crap ruling by the NRL yet again.
