Brooks insists he remains the right man to end Wests Tigers' decade-long finals drought and rejected suggestions he will seek a fresh start elsewhere with his career at a crossroads.

Despite the devastating loss, Brooks fronted reporters after full-time to field questions around his future.

His Tigers tenure has long been under the microscope, never more so than in recent weeks amid suggestions the club is considering moving him on with two years remaining on what is understood to be a heavily back-ended contract.

At the same time plenty of punters and pundits, with Phil Gould among them, have wondered whether Brooks too would be better served by a change of scenery after bearing the brunt of scrutiny around the Tigers for the past eight seasons.

"I'm here for another few years so that's sort of out of the question for me," Brooks said, denying close confidants are urging him to consider moving on from Concord.

"I want to be here, I want to be successful at the Tigers.

Reports linking Brooks to the Cowboys under former Tigers assistant Todd Payten are understood to have prompted a meeting with club officials late last month, where the local junior was assured he was still wanted.

Brooks said that message hasn't changed in the weeks since despite the devastating Leichhardt loss and what is now a 1-5 record, with chair Lee Hagipentalis telling NRL.com during the week that the 26-year-old "has my absolute faith and confidence".

"They have spoken to me plenty of times," Brooks said.

"I guess that's good for me that they're still backing me.

"[Coach Michael Maguire] has stuck up for me. He's helped me there and its outside people's opinions, they're allowed to have those opinions.

"As long as Madge and the club are happy with me, then I'm happy."

"I can't read into it too much because I can't worry about what other people are saying.

"They've got their opinions and they're allowed to have their opinions.

"I've just got to try and not read too much of the media.

"Sometimes it's hard not to see it now days. But I'm alright, I've just got to go out and do my job for the team."

HE CAN DO IT WITH DOUEHI

We have some very winnable games over the next 5-7 rounds. This is his opportunity to put in some really solid performances which hopefully result in some consecutive wins.

Brooks has had enough of an apprenticeship. People blamed Benji for taking control and not giving Brooks a chance, people blamed Robbie for taking control and once again, not giving Brooks to show his wares.

They are both now gone and after 150 games, sadly not much has changed. I think Brooks needs someone to take the pressure off him being the main playmaker.

4 weeks ago I was still hoping for the real Brooks to stand up, now I am with you, I would love Brooks to be the half we thought he could be, but we have waited far too long

If we want to be top 8 we have to win close games like that where we were in it. Just need a 7 that can ice it. The draw is an excuse. I don't cop excuses leads to mediocrity.

Mate , nothing new your saying here . It’s soo repetitive! And mind numbing . He’s the reason we lose , and when we win it’s because of someone else . Cool . Great . Do we have to read the same thing reworded by the same 5-10 people over and over ? It’s not changing anytime soon . And when it does happy days for the lot of you . You can dance on his grave . Awesome ! Enough until then . It’s boring !
