Luke burt

Could it be that Lote will announce his retirement?

He's had a shocking year with injury.

Somehow I think he may have some unfinished business, so Retirement will not be an option!

Can I just add this would be a really stupid signing in terms of the long term benefit of the team. He may be a good short term solution to fullback but we need to blood a young gun. Burt may only play for another year (he's getting on) and we need a fullback to strike up a good combo with Benji, Lui and Robbie and these things can't be done over night. We need a young fullback to be given a chance next year.

Im surprised people are not more excited about this possible signing.

You cant tell me Burt is not a superior player to Brown, Humble or Grant,

If Tedessco is the long term solution, is there a better role model in the mean time than Luke Burt.

Altho these things might not get fans hearts racing Burt is reknowned as 1 of the best trainers in the NRL, well known for spending hours on doing extras and researching opposition plays, alledgedly Billy Slater adopted his opponent preparation. This is why Burt is never out of position. Burt has one of the quickest play the balls in the comp, and close to the highest bomb defusal percentage in the comp.
He is a wonderful support player who scored over 100 NRL tries, none of which look like Blake Ferguson, but that is not who he is..

We already have Benji, Farrah, Lawrence and Lote, not too mention Blair and Ellis in the forwards, we are not going to get Billy Slater under the cap, we should be thrilled to finish off our back line with Burt, I doubt we will even get a player as proven and accomplished as Burt.

I want this to be true so bad, but dont think it will happen

Well that looks like the plan for most of these signings..except for Blair they all look like short term fixes.

I suppose with the idea being to blood the young guns… hope they step up and the kids then become long term solutions.

If we are still looking for a fullback Burt would be a good signing.

Burt would be perfect for our style of play, he is a great open field runner, and has the ability to be in the right place at the right time, but do we need him, I say no. Keep the money for our 2013 marque signing.

If their was any substance to Burt coming our way you would have to think their is a player leaving

I just can't see why we would want Burt. So far we have signed backs in Grant and Reddy. We already have two of the NRL's best centres in Lawrence and Ayshford a dual international in Tiquiri on one wing and a fast improving finisher in Ryan on the other. A waste of dollars in my opinion.
(or as the young ones say IMO)

I can see your point Helmesy but would imagine if Lote can go out at his best he will
But who knows what possibly winning the title will do if we manage to win ??
Might be the pefect way of going out

I would like to see Burt in our colours, he was one of the best all-round players in the comp in 2011 I think. He outshone Hayne.

Poor Demps, he'd have to make two trips around the block when he played well. Once to give him a spray about how much he hates him and then a second trip to congratulate him on a good game.

so next year we could possibly have a backline of

Burt
Ryan Cross
Ayshford
Lawrence
Tuqiri?

would have to be the oldest backline int he comp. no thanks.

I see your point mate and its valid. However, IMO, Grant wont make first grade, Aysh could be headed into the backrow allowing Reddy to play cente and that would leave Brown as our number 1.

Mullaney seems unwanted, Tedesco is still too green, Moltz is moving on and dont know whats the go with Daniella. We do need another outside back and if Burt is the man than I would not be unhappy.

The bloke can play, has a wealth of experience and is a goal kicker.

Well Ryan Cross won't be there and Luke Burt is just one person's unsourced rumour at this stage. Our backline could just as easily be:

Ryan
Brown
Lawrence
Ayshford
Tuqiri

Hardly Dad's Army stuff.

From memory his Overseas rugby union contract wasn't a long term one and seemed to only be covering for injuries/players playing in he RWC making him available next season.
Similar to what Tuqiri did before joining us.

I'm with yoss, i hope both Cross and Burt aren't anywhere near our club.
We hav some good young stock and its about time we used them.

About time we used them ?? What do you mean about time Groat, Woods, Fifita, Miller, Simona have all played FG this year and the others with potential in the U20s - Sironen, Nofoaluma and Tedesco are all 17/18 and still school age so I think about time is a bit of a stupid comment to be honest and if I new how the reputation points work I'd have to mark you down for that

Agree, and before that bunch we had Moltzen, Lui Ayshford and Lawrece all play NRL in their teens, actually ever since Sheens has been in control we have played a heap of youngsters!

We are in a "premirship window" at the moment to steal the Afl terminology, IMO it makes sense to feel gaps with players now, 2012 is not the time to play a guy who is not ready yet. We have enough players that will continue to develop in the future, we can afford some short term buys for right now.
