According to the local Penriff rag, apparently Luke Lewis has been battling cancer, and will reveal it on the game plan tonight.

It was on the game plan, he had neck cancer but i think it is all gone now he said he will be ready to play next year and is a very small chance to play the round 26 game. I sort of hate him that he did not sign with us so i don't care if he can or cant play anymore and i hope that the sharks get the spoon next year.

That second sentence is nothing short of disgraceful. Has anyone you've ever cared about had cancer? It's rife in my family in all sorts of various forms and I wouldn't wish upon anybody, not even someone I despise.

I hope he overcomes it all and returns to his best with the Sharks next year.

One of the most disgraceful comments i've ever read anywhere. Grow up and get a clue

Gee that's poor TigerFlame… I don't know what the hell you were thinking when you wrote that but you need to have a good look at yourself. Cancer or no cancer hating a bloke for making a career choice or being happy someone's career is over is weak.

Anyway back to Luke Lewis… That's terrible news and I wish him all the best in his recovery. It's time like this and with Jon Mannah that you remember league is a game and there are more serious things going on.

It just falls in line with all of the other crap he posts. Being a kid is no excuse for idiotic statements like that. To not care about a guy battling cancer all cos he didn't sign a contract to play footy for us shows you have the IQ of a dung beetle

The single most disrespectful thing I've ever read on this forum. Some people get banned for "personal attacks" and yet tigerflame won't get a slap on the wrist. That comment was horrendous and in extremely poor taste.

**Cancer scare robs Luke Lewis of chance to farewell Penrith fans**

LUKE Lewis didn't imagine it would end like this.

He'll be seated alongside to the tunnel at Centrebet Stadium tomorrow afternoon, powerless to help Penrith avoid the wooden spoon thanks to an eight centimetre cut on his throat.

Instead of a match-winning performance, the scar will be the 208-game veteran's permanent reminder of his final appearance at the venue as a Penrith Panther. And yet still Lewis has no choice but to be eternally grateful.

In a tell-all interview with The Daily Telegraph, the Blacktown junior yesterday revealed a thyroid cancer scare has destroyed his chances of playing one last game for Penrith before next year's switch to Cronulla.

After receiving the dreaded diagnosis earlier this month Lewis kept the news closely guarded until his cancerous thyroid was removed last Monday and doctors gave him the all-clear to resume training.

The surgery was a success, meaning Lewis could immediately resume gym work with only hormone tablets to aid his recovery.

While scar tissue around the throat is too tender to contemplate a return against either the Titans tomorrow or Brisbane next Friday night, the 29-year-old has been throwing himself into training to put the unsettling episode to rest.

"It was pretty scary, but it's hard to explain," Lewis said.

"It's all still a mixture of emotions.

"I sort of dealt with it by imaging it wasn't happening to me - if that makes sense.

"It was probably tougher on my wife (Sonia) and mum (Sharon).

The ordeal began with routine trip for scans following Penrith's 26-18 loss to Wests Tigers on 14 July.

"I hurt my neck in that game, and the scans showed a lump on my thyroid," Lewis said. "The doctors wanted to take a biopsy to make sure everything was alright.

"The biopsy came back showing that I had abnormal cells and I needed to see a specialist. They cut some more out and told me it was thyroid cancer.

"From the start it was made clear to me that everything would be okay, that I'd only need tablets and not anything like chemo.

"But I needed to go back and have my thyroid removed, which happened last Monday.

"I've just got to stay on the tablets to make sure my hormone levels are sweet.

"It won't affect my football and I reckon if there was one more week I'd be able to play for Penrith again.

"At the end of the day, it was pretty lucky they found it at all. If I hadn't hurt my neck who knows how long it might have been there before anyone noticed?

"It could have turned out to be something a lot more serious and I'm very thankful it's not."

Lewis is also taking steps to have his medication checked by ASADA, which offers therapeutic exemptions for tablets containing substances that are otherwise banned under the WADA code.

But he has no idea what to expect from Penrith officials, who've been curiously quiet about farewell plans.

Panthers supremo Phil Gould did not even respond to The Daily Telegraph's inquiry last night.

"I've not talked to them about anything," Lewis said.

"I'm not sure if anything is planned for me or the other guys like Flash (Michael Gordon), who are leaving.

"There's a few old team mates like Luke Priddis, Rhys Wesser and Scott Sattler coming down for the match, so I'll probably just catch up with them and reminisce about old times afterwards. It's a bit of a disappointing end - not being able to play - but there's nothing else I can do but get myself physically ready."

Lewis completed his first ballwork session on Wednesday, but is yet to resume contact work. He's confident of being fit for selection in the October 13 Test against New Zealand, but pragmatic enough to understand finals players will have the jump.

"It's always an honour to play for Australia and I'd love to wear the jersey in that game, but I've got to be realistic," he said. "I will have missed the final six games and there's blokes who will have played the entire finals series."

Mate learn from it

Once you have typed something count to ten and then read it

If you still feel it is appropriate then hit submit

I do the same thing at times when I'm starting to fire up
