CANBERRA have resigned themselves to losing the race for Luke Lewis's signature as Cronulla continue to firm as the favourite to snare the disgruntled Panther.

Canberra spoke with Lewis and submitted an official offer to his manager Greg Willett on the weekend, but club insiders privately believe he has already agreed to join the Sharks.

Willett indicated on Sunday he is keen to have a new deal for Lewis finalised by tomorrow, with Wests Tigers, Parramatta and Newcastle the other major contenders.

Lewis, who last week shocked the league world by asking Penrith for a release, is keen to join a club capable of winning a premiership next year.

The 28-year-old was wined and dined at the Sutherland home of Australian Test cricketer Shane Watson last week. He also forged strong friendships with Sharks stars Paul Gallen and Todd Carney during this year's Origin series.

The Knights are reportedly trying to convince Cronulla to release second rower Jeremy Smith from the final year of his contract. Should the New Zealand international move to Newcastle, it would free up space for Cronulla to accommodate Lewis with a lucrative three year deal.

It seems most of media have Luke going to the Sharks… Are we flying under the radar ? We are only mentioned as 1 of other clubs interested..

Supposedly lukey gave the tigers a call immediately after seeing the shire on tv last night.

hmmm… I dont think we are looking at Lewis to be a Halfback, or looking for any Halfback for that matter.

We already have our Halfback... He is wearing the 7!

{well im going to go out on a limb and risk my reputation on this site and say it now rather than do it with the cluster in the next two days but luke lewis to sharks is confirmed. Whilst i work in the media this isn't a media source at all rather someone a personal friend whom is the know at the west tigers. Barring some freak 11th hour hitch lewis is coming sharks.

i wish i got that confirmed from my own sources like these rumours but yeah though id share these interesting developments.

$BW is reluctant to play NRL and is only doing so because he gave his word to Politis a while back that he would come back and play for the roosters. He is now starting to get the feel for union and really enjoying it so expect it to be no more than the one year deal with roosters.}

This is something i found trolling through the net. Not sure who it is or where they work but interesting anyway..

Damn!!
Well my gut feeling was right but i didn't want to believe it…

Still based on what we were offering we must have the $ to try and buy someone decent but as i mentioned previously we prolly went hard because of lukes standing in the game thus we would only put up big cash for someone special, although maybe we will just wait now and look at possible upgrades and hold for the year after.

Yeh I feel that maybe all along it's been sharks from that report when he was having lunch in shire - again just my personal viewpoint .. And the conjecture and media speculation came along and got other clubs excited..

This thread has more speculation than the ASX.

Calm down peeps, Lewis will make his decision in due course and there is absolutely nothing you can do to sway him.

Its just intriguing. Its a high profile player making a decision where we are seemingly a chance and I think from our point of view we can see the importance of such a signing and with Lewis we are undoubtedly a much stronger looking forward pack with a touch of class..

Still, now it seems we have lost out we have a lot to look forward to next year - with some solid signings and some young guns coming through and teddy to return and I'm still hoping we can give this year a shake.

He's heading to the Sharks - no doubt.

Still I think what we know now is we have some money to spend - as I have said all along we need another prop and an experienced and speedy centre or winger.

I would also re-sign Bell and let Heighnington go.

Oh don't worry we"ll give the comp a shake with or without Lewis. Anyway I'm glad it's Sharks & hope they go on to win the comp (one day).

No one knows what his decision is.

THANK YOU! So sick of all these people thinking they have inside information. Let's wait til the end of the week and we will see, if we miss out we miss out.

Yes, what is clear though - some comments are either bs or I'll informed..

This just adds to the drama and we just don't know - who has the actual correct info and what is guessing games or who heard a story from a mate down the pub..
