Luke Lewis

Lots are saying that Lewis wants to play for a contender

If he has watched our last three games the last thing he will be thinking that we are a contender

That's why I'm doubtful he'll go to the Eels. He will deadset be the laughing stock of the NRL - if he thinks the Pamfers have problems, he'll be in for a nice shock at the Eels.

Bulldogs or Cronulla are looking most likely, with us probably 3rd on the list. Can you imagine the back row at the Dogs next year… Pritchard, T-Rex, Lewis 😱pen_mouth: best in the league for sure. Cronulla wouldn't be too bad either. Wade Graham has gone to a whole new level this year, and partner them up with Gallen and you've got a monster back row.

Leaving the club should be Ellis, Lote, Rhino, Moors, Humble, Cashmere and id like to see some releases of other nuffies like Ayshford and Reddy to make space for Lewis.

i would hardly say aysh is a "nuffie".. people were talking him up for NSW centre last year, he should be our permanent right centre.
also, getting rid of cashmere??? that would leave us with 3 props: woods, gal and bell… we need 4 props per game and at least 2/3 for depth.
also, i see a lot of people saying the exemption will apply to benji, farah and fulton.. im not so sure about fulton coz he went ESL for a couple of years... rhino on the other hand would be exempted
iirc we have been fined for being over our cap the last two years meaning we have a lot of big names already, lewis would NO doubt be a massive inclusion to our pack but i think that money would be better spent on a halfback. IF we get a decent halfback, we can let go of people like chisolm, humble and maybe moltzen along with iosefa as well.
our priority should be a no.7
we've bought our "big name" backrower in blair- like it or not.

Its all well and good to release all these so-called nuffies who are on minimum contracts to create more room, but we still need to replace the guys who are on the minimum. Releasing guys like Humble, Moors and Cashmere won't make a lick of difference

i agree 100% we need a 1/2 and more props and the focus should be on this but it aint gonna happen. Weve needed a half since 2007, drum roll… 5 years later we still need a half. It just isnt going to happen with Sheens at the helm. For some reason he just doesnt want a real halfback. We went into this year without Cashmere and only sort him out due to injuries...what ever happend to Groat?? I cant see camp concord admitting they were wrong and buying more props for next year, shouldnt they have done it this year, if they go out and buy some props doesnt it just show they made a huge stuff up this year being light on. (i think they did, but Sheens wont think he did anything wrong getting rid of 2 props and replacing them with 1)

Your right about Fults i forgot about his stint in England.

As for Aysh, although not totally his fault due to Sheens playing him all over the place but his form this year has been nothing but average, any kid from the reserves could have played in his shoes this year and it wouldnt have made a difference. last year he was awesome but this year has fallen right off his game...nuffie.

"we've bought our "big name" backrower in blair- like it or not."
Not sure what your getting at with that comment. That was last year, 4 years ago we bought a big name backrower by the name of Gareth Ellis. Why cant we buy a big name backrower this year? Some might already argue we already have with Anasta coming next year, id prefer Lewis than Anasta.

It would. Although it would be small it could be the difference at the end of the day. Moors, Humble, Bell, Reddy etc etc although not on huge money like Lote and Ellis would still be on more cash then kids if they start playing their first season in the NRL, hence the little bit of extra cash saved could be thrown at Lewis. i mean if you had 350,000 available today but got rid of some of these players and replaced them with kids it could be the difference of throwing 350,000 offer at him or an offer between 350,000 - 450,000 a season.

And then what do we do when we have ANOTHER mountain of injuries and we have to call on inexperienced kids who r not up for it???? U can't just clean a stack of blokes out to make way for one!
An that's not what happend for Blair, anybody in the know knows that woods got a huge upgrade, as did groat as did a few of the up and coming 20s players, ppl complained we got rid of two props for Blair, now ppl want to clean out 5 or so players who r our depth for one second rower! Makes no sense, the squad needs balance!

Don't get me wrong I want Lewis more than anything ATM, but it would be silly to clean out all ur depth in order to get him given how severe our injury toll has been past two seasons

Exactly and if you bring in younger players to play NRL its not long before they want NRL money - crazy argument.

The important element is getting the blend right - paying the right amount for the right players.

One thing no one here has mentioned is the third party opportunities that we may be able to offer Luke Lewis now that Lote looks likely to be gone…

For sure there will be money left when some players move on. But im sure we will fight to the end to sign him and i think were a very very big chance to sign him.

Would love Lewis at the Tigers. One small hope I hold is that in the paper I read he is currently building a new house at Orchard Hills. Parra or Tigers would have to be the most convenient to play out of Orchard Hills and sure Parra are too much of a basket case?

The dogs and saints are out of the running, everyone else in Sydney has shown "varying levels of interest" according to his manager.

I think there's one question the manager or Lewis would have to ask that would put parramatta out of the race also. Who's coaching next year?

Apparently one of the keys to where he'll end up is Jeremy Smith. The Sharks are trying to release him to free up some more cash. So why can't the Tigers just do the same with Rhino? he's wanted to go over to the ESL his whole career so what better time then now? he'd be doing a great service for his club if he went to the U.K a yr early. If the Tigers really want Lewis it looks as though they'll need to release someone and Rhino is the most obvious candidate

Surely the Sharks releasing Jeremy Smith has nothing to do with them signing Luke Lewis. There has been talking of Smith leaving since way before Lewis came onto the market and why would they want to get rid of the best backrower in the NRL 2012 for Luke Lewis who has been way underperforming at NRL level all season? The more I think of it, the more likely it is that we'll get him imo.

Don't forget guys, we had a fantastic half in the making, and that was Robert Lui, so it can't be said that we haven't had a good one since 2007, but unfortunately Rob didn't work out :astonished: . but it would be great if lewis were prepared to come over to our club, but I can't see that happening :roll

Just gonna throw this curve ball out there. What chance if we snagged him could he be i wonder of playing halfback? he played there for a while a couple seasons back and absolutley killed it. I'm not advocating it, back-row is where i'd play him, but knowing Sheens, who knows???
