Luke Lewis

last line:
There are suggestions Lewis is planning to live in Cronulla even if he doesn't join the Sharks, but the sight of him looking at houses is bound to get Cronulla fans excited.

*cough cough* MOLTZEN *Cough*

I'm going to come and and say at no stage have I seen Lewis dining with players, shopping for houses, buying coffees, kissing babies, talking to players, doing jumping jacks, or picking at his scalp, and have no idea where he is heading.

That statement is no less relevant than the crap WIelder's reporting. I should have the Wieds' job.

big difference between moltz and lewis.. however lewis did do soemthing similar when he almost signed with souths. so its not an impossible scenario.
hopefully its announced before the footy show tonight.

Paul Gallen says he would happily forsake his status as Cronulla's highest-paid player to bring Luke Lewis to the club.

Lewis is weighing up a move to the Sharks or Wests Tigers after being granted an early release from the final two years of his contract with Penrith and Gallen would love to line up alongside his NSW teammate at the start of the 2013 NRL season.

The Cronulla and NSW skipper signed a two-year contract extension last year which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2015 campaign, and he said attracting top-quality players to Toyota Stadium is more important to him than earning more money.

"I am quite happy with where I am at, at the moment. If he earns more money than me, I don't care," Gallen said on Thursday.

"Toddy (Carney) is probably going to earn more money than me. It's about winning. I am more than happy with my contract and where it's at and, if someone get more than me, it's fine."

Sharks coach Shane Flanagan has been working around the clock trying to persuade Lewis to join his club.

However, Gallen said he had no idea what decision the former Panthers skipper will make, despite the fact he's been spotted checking out properties in the Cronulla area.

"I spoke to Flanno last night at 10pm and I know he and (football manager) Darren Mooney are doing all they can," Gallen said.

"It's up to Lewy now. He's a different character as we all know. I am sure he'll be looking at property prices out here and out the Tigers' way as well and will make the right decision for his family and himself."

Gallen also said that securing the services of Lewis would send out a signal of intent from the perennial battlers that they are a serious player in the NRL.

"That's where we are at the moment," he said.

"You pick up a player like Luke Lewis then other players want to come here as well. It would be nice to get him."

He won't be coming to the Tigers, I don't think he ever really was. The Ties he has to Cronulla are far greater than that of the Tigers. Love to have him, but given up on seeing him in the Black & Gold next year.

Yeah, so much for that :unamused:

The Cricketer in the shire his wife are best friends so there's some influence, and a few other he's got Gallen, Carney, Ben Ross, Michael Gordon, Wade Graham. Seems to have a pritty good relationship with the Coach Flanagan. I was just saying that the odd's seem against us. So ease up.

Certainly the way it's been portrayed in the media, you would believe the Sharks will get Lewis. It seems it's slanted in their favour. To be fair though it's either us or them, it was always going to slant one way or the other. If he does end up in the shire, good luck to them. They've endured a lot and fought through just as much. They deserve some good fortune.

It doesn't mean squat though what the media reports. It's all speculation until Lewis makes his decision. I saw James Phelps tweet earlier that Parra had countered with a massive offer in the past 24 hours. So there is plenty happening and i don't believe anyone is out of it just yet. Especially the Tigers.

was just curious what you were basing it on… didnt know anything about the cricketer...
should have just created his own reality show for a week, would have out rated the shire.

Just so everyone knows, there is no real benefit of letting guys like Spence and Grant and you definitely can't let go of these guys to get Lewis.

The reason is these guys are probably on minimum NRL Contract which I think is $55k. As an NRL Squad you need to have 25 players. You might let 3 of these guys go to free up $165k, but the problem is even if that money allows you to sign Lewis, you still have to sign two more players and they have to be on at least $55k.

The players you mentioned aren't even top 25.

They are on lower tier (and would receive nowhere near $55k) and as such have no bearing on NRL salary cap.
