Lots of positive vibes at the moment for Madge on the back of two wins against very average opposition and some fluff in the media.
Be interesting what the vibes are like in two weeks after the Sharks and Penrith games.

You can’t sugar coat it, this year has been terrible. A few wins against under manned opposition, or spoon candidates.

The vision of the rebuild around top not juniors is flawed if you don’t have the quality to show them the way. Also every team in the comp are also buying up top notch juniors. Every junior rep side gets sliced up around the clubs.

We are not going anywhere till we can get some real quality into the team, and I have my doubts our coach can attract that quality.

Happy to be proven wrong

Well said. Prepare to be downvoted by some complete cowards.

Who would you replace him with? No point getting rid of him if there is no one to take over.

If things are not working you have to try something, take a punt. Personally I would target someone like Cameron Ciraldo, John Morris or even Jason Ryles. Younger guys from good systems. Or you go someone like Neil Henry. **Sometimes you just need a new face with new ideas**

I remember reading that in 2011 regarding Sheens...what could go wrong..

Yep Geo I was a big one for dumping Sheens, did not turn out so good!!

Removing Sheens was the right move.not getting the right coaches over the next 3-4 years is where it went wrong

You do realise we couldn’t go after a big coach because we didn’t have the money after having to pay out Sheens Salary until end of 2014.

I watched the Storm Titans game last night and it was a good game of footy...finals type of game...
the standout for me was watching Cam Munster take hold of the team, talk, direct and get involved right throughout the game....thats LEADERSHIP right there ...and I hope one of our young guns will be able to do the same as they develop under Madge..

We have Doueihi who will be that bloke for us, the issue is Madge can't attract the good players to compliment our young blokes

You seem to think Madge cant attract the good players....maybe the club and Madge only want to start building from within before spending big on big name players...Madge can and will attract big name players but the club has already said they will wait and see what comes up....you cant despise a bloke for trying to do the right thing first and foremost....thats the trouble with fans and supporters who want wins yesterday...they dont understand that the club will be here for many years to come, not just fall by the wayside because the fans dont see it the way paid professionals do....

You keep saying I hate/despise the bloke, I don't, I want the club to succeed, I don't think Madge is the bloke to do it, it doesn't mean I hate him.
I love his passion, I love what he done with the young players, but his game plans either suck or the players are not buying in, either way it will not work.
He lost the sheds at souths, that is a fact, they sacked him, another fact, he coached them to 12th in 2016 and 2017 another fact, his record since winning in 2014 is very very ordinary.
This is why I was highly sceptical that he would work out here, and the results on the field and lack of quality recruitment, suggest we are heading down the same road as souths circa 2016/17.

If his strategy is to build from within why did we offer Latrell, TPJ and JAC?

The narrative changed when it became apparent the good players won't sign for Madge

We haven't beat a decent team this year, unless you call Knights a decent team. We will miss finals again but if they play well the remaining 3 games and put up a fight against Panthers id let him coach next year perhaps, If there is noone better on the market

Supercoach, I know where you are coming from. I too have my doubts about Madge, but I was heartened somewhat after watching the last Tiger Tales episode. I really think the next three weeks will be telling. If the Sharks beat us and we get smashed by the Panthers, then we need to look for another coach. If we beat the Sharks, beat the Panthers, or even compete well, and beat the Bulldogs, then we are travelling in the right direction and I will support him.

What did you find heartening on the episode out of interest?

I saw he had some positive interactions with his players and showed more calm. He seemed to have more to say about specific tactics for specific situations. The episodes before all I can remember is a lot of swearing, yelling and statements such as '**it's like life and death**' , which I thought were over the top. I'm not yet convinced, but I will back him if we finish this season really strongly.

WT’s success is much more important. Can you not see the improvements? We don’t have a top 6 roster yet, but it’s getting there.

Tigerwest - completely agree, it's all about WT success. Yes, I have seen the improvements of late. Two wins in a row, albeit against weak opposition, but also more positive insights into the behind the scenes workings at the club. If we can win today, do really well against the Panthers and beat the Bulldogs then we will be taking real momentum into 2022. Here's hoping this happens. If the opposite happens, I suppose looking again from the lens of only wanting WT success, then I would be looking at changing the coach. I like the passion of all the supporters on this forum. Whether pro Madge or not, we all want the same thing. If we win today, let's all crack a beer.

I don’t understand the urgency to get rid of the coach? Last year many posters agreed we wouldn’t see positive signs of recovering from the mess Ivan left and the failures of previous coaches until 2022, due to the club’s poor reputation and with 35% of the cap sitting in the stand. Frugality has us to the point of huge improvement and it’s become so urgent to get rid of those who got us here??? I don’t get it??? I’ll be having a beer tonight win lose or draw. ?

twenty forty - I've taken your advice. We're down 34-16 as I'm speaking. I'm cracking a beer.

Poor from Madge again today

I'd be surprised if they kept him around for next year. As harsh as it sounds he's helped create a decent young core of players, let's get a coach in that can use them appropriately.

I think this is it for Madge. Really, I blame the players much more than him, but at the end of the day we need 10 or 15 of our team axed, or 1 coach. Possibly both, but from managements perspective the players win these choices every day.

He has nothing.

Same terrible bench rotation. Any talent our younger players have is wasted in the current structure.

100%, I have given Madge credit for the juniors, but he has destroyed the NRL team

Just so everyone is clear, this has been our worst season for a long time right? Like really think about our wins. Any wins against a full strength top 8 team? I literally can't think of a single win that surprised me. Madge's tenure as coach rides on next season and our results. We need some good wins or he is gone. 1 more year, if that. He's had 3 years to fix the culture, we need to see results. This year has been a void in that area.

If Madge is to live or die on wins alone, I mean if that’s the only indicator to measure his failure or success, then at least allow him the time to see the average age of his players equal to, or higher than more than 50% of nrl teams? He’s breaking the cycle and with that changing people’s expectations, if you put a time limit on this you create a vastly different approach, one we’ve previously tried without success. The wins will come when the inexperienced players grow with the speed of the game.

But you see I disagree. I don't see greatness from this current crop of players. I completely understand why they're giving Madge time but it isn't automatically going to work. I think the players we have are boring and really really average. Laurie and Stefano the only exceptions.

For what its worth i would give him until his contract expires. He has gone for rebuilding the club from the base with his emphasis on youth and our long term success instead of a quick fix which has proven on every other occasion to be a failure like all his predecessors have tried(except Sheens). The last bloke who tried for a quick fix here destroyed our cap and we dont get out of the mess until the end of 2022 when we stop paying a former captain to play at the drags. He then betrayed the club and us by running away while under contract and leaving a dogs breakfast for our club to overcome by paying overs to blokes who just dont seem to care.
I want wins as much as everyone else and some of our players dont seem to give a rats the way we as supporters do.At the end of this year Madge has just about weeded these types out the club.
Onward and upward

I still don't see greatness coming from this current crop of players. I would have to do a lot of mental gymnastics to think these players: Talau, Kepaoa, Luciano, Garner, Cini, Pauga, Amone are going to grow into great players. I don't see it at all.

You are picking the lower end of our young players but even so some of those could get there.I doubt Lucy or Amone will but i couldnt rule out any of the others from becoming decent FG players

I don’t understand, that game today showed me more than ever that it’s not Madge ? Our team is Fkn dreadful excuse my French. Absolutely terrible. Maguire is not making 3 beaters fall off wingers in the middle of the field, or these absolute duds to drop the ball on the first tackle. We are a terrible rugby league team from top to bottom bar 4-5 players and not many of them are consistent. I don’t know what coach would come in and help this team

All uncoached teams are dreadful.
Manly were dreadful with Barrett coaching largely the same roster.

Crap coach doesn’t know his players. Been saying for ages amongst many other forum twellers, swearing at players gets old quick!!
Know idea Luciano is NOT a 80minute player. Flanagan called him out correctly all game weak in defence because he is fatigued!!
Comes in when he shouldn’t, stays out when he should come in. The signs of a guy who’s fatigued, because the coach has know idea about the capabilities of people he works with every day.
Listen to Flanagan he knows what’s going on, even when our defensive based coach leaks another 50 points. He still says our fundamentals are there, just to many errors! That comes from over coaching and not getting them up for the game.
I can’t believe that people think he deserves another year. Give me the drug cheat any day. Better than this crap.
