It's good to read the club is considering all options as new coach.

As they should.

It makes sense to approach a SL coach.

You won’t find any experienced coach from the NRL willing to put their reputation on the line for this lost cause. Madge is the biggest example of what happens when you do that.
It will be a rookie or an outsider. I’d say even redemption story Flanagan will bide his time looking for a better offer.

We've had EOIs for the position already. I believe WTs is a great club and is a powerhouse in waiting with the right coach onboard.

? ? ?
I will say this. I don’t have the time and resources to look this up however. It does seem that coaches that have returned from a stint in the SL where they have complete autonomy of a first grade set up without the influence of a head coach etc. seem to have greater success coaching in the NRL than coaches that were assistants under good coaches and moved onto the next opportunity.

This team has no leaders in the playing group - are they serious? Why do they deserve a place at the table?

Agreed. Furthermore im more interested in Maguires relationship with the younger players given they are the only hope of future success.

NRL at the end of the day is a results driven business. Maguire 3 years our attack and defence have regressed. He needs to go even though sacking coaches does not deal with other issues underpinning the results on the field. Tough offseason.

Good god the coaches fate in the hands of the leaders of the team - who are they Im still trying to figure that out. Players at other clubs must be killing themselves with laughter at the joke. We pay them for this.
And fans ask why we can't attract quality players. The next sucker better come with a mental health plan in order.

Don't you have confidence in Pascoe and Hartigan to filter the feedback? Pascoe's achievements with the Club's finances cannot be denied. He also brought Sheens back onboard. This is about WTs, not Maguire.

Not when it excuses their role in the clubs failure to get results - no. And clearly if they think that the leadership on the field this year is worth listening to - when from the outside looking in every one who knows anything about the game will tell you there wasn't any - then I have no confidence in anything they pretend to filter back.

Do you believe the Club is also receiving input from player managers? Perhaps Sheens has been in contact to remove roadblocks in players joining WTs?

I have no doubt that the reason why Sheens contacted all the player managers. But you can’t excuse Hartigan from that criticism.

But the one point your missing with the recruiting players is if they are professionals they want to strive to achieve something either on an individual level or on a group level. If regardless of a coach and the satisfaction of playing under one that individual can’t see a likelihood of a) being recognised as a rep player or b) being a part of club likely to win a premiership they aren’t going to want to sign with the club.
Even a 5 year contract wouldn’t entice the best player in the game to come here because those 5 years look dim.

When we all know that we need 3-4 quality top line players who will bring grit, leadership and football quality to the club .... are the 'leadership group' going to recommend this when their opinions are sought? They will be punting themselves out of a job!

Sheens has done nothing to date to correct our current problems so please stop dropping his name. When he achieves what ever he is employed to do then by all means scream his name from the rooftops.

Call Matterson what you like but if he wasnt happy then money wasnt going to fix it.For someone to leave for less money then you must not be enjoying your time there.I said to his father Madge took him as a fringe player and made him a fringe State of Origin player. He agreed with me but said his son didnt like him as a coach.I am only telling you all what i was told. You can hate Matterson all you like.

Thanks for posting the Matterson goss.

Sounds legit to me.

I was at the last game he played for us. He was filthy with the pea hearted effort the boys put in. He was visibly upset. Meanwhile others like Nofo were laughing and joking with the opposition.

Couple of weeks later he was dudded in the club's player of the year awards when he was clearly our best player

The rest is history.

At the end of 2019 the story broke about Ryan Matterson wanting out of our club.I rang his father who i know and asked him if it was true and he told me it wasnt. Then over the next few weeks Matterson demanded a release and the Tigers came back with promises of upgrades and even considered offering him the captaincy. He didnt want it because he didnt enjoy his time at the club. When he left we all on the forum ripped into him calling him a dog etc etc.Months later i had a drink with his father Paul and asked him why he wasnt honest with me and secondly why his son walked away from the club.He said 100% it wasnt about money as the Tigers offered him more than the Eels.He also said he misled me as he tried to talk Ryan out of it.Ryan just wanted out because of Madge and also because of Pascoe. He said Madge plays favorites with certain players and the others have to cop it.He told many other things but i wont bore you all with them. With Pascoe when players try to tell him with their grievances he wont do anything about them because he always backed the coach. The last thing Paul told me as long as Madge stays as coach no decent players will join the Tigers as his reputation is well known throughout the players in the Nrl.I remember disagreeing with him but over the last weeks i have changed my mind.I have spoken a few times with Paul over the last 2 years and every time he does says "I TOLD YOU SO"

I believe that you're being honest with what you were told, but I doubt the underlying story. After all no father is going to go around telling people that his son did in fact leave because he was chasing money and has the character of a rat. Why would the Tigers "offer more than the Eels"? he was already contracted, there was no need to offer him anything at that time.

In fact Matterson is a good example of Madge getting the best out of players, because he's been rubbish since he left.

100% the only way to address that is hold talks with 3 plyers/player managers at the same time. Ideally the players would have some link also where they would be comfortable contacting each other to discuss the option and want to play with each other.
For example Smith, Papallii and Tapine all played for NZ together and would immediately give us a top 8 (or better) pack that we could the use to recruit a half.
