Madge vs JT vs Potter vs Cleary

The way he chops and changes the halves is akin to me looking in the fridge when I’m hungry and there’s nothing there. Then 10 minutes later looking again thinking something would have magically appeared. But nothing ever does.

Don't even put Madge and Cleary in the same sentence together. Cleary knows nothing about hard work, he walked straight into a Panthers system built by Gus and Griffin and with huge juniors to choose from as well as established facilities and huge assets. All Cleary did for us was leave a huge bloody mess. We talk about rebuilds, but it has never really been done properly and never done holistically taking into account club culture, streamlined junior system that fits into our first grade system and smart recruitment. I doubt it would've ever worked (Madge and Gus together) but we really need to be doing something like the Warriors are doing with Brown and Gus.

Sheens ....there is no comparison.

Unless someone else wins a premiership here sheens is our best coach ever.

Another post trying to excuse Jason Taylor and make him look better lol.

How’s the forward pack going. Didn’t you rate it the best in the comp at the start of the season? 😂

Not only did Sheen's win, he got them playing exciting football people liked to watch. Ah the glory days 😛 I miss fun football

I don’t think we’re in any better position and I don’t think he’s doing a particularly good job (so far). His bench choices have been bizarre and the constant chopping and changing hasn’t worked (1 win from our last 6). His ability to recruit is yet to be determined but his signings and re-signings haven’t exactly set the world on fire (Luciano excluded, who has been brilliant).

I’m not suggesting we get rid of him because we couldn’t attract anyone else who is decent anyway and we need stability.

He’s been hit and miss with his recruitment. The spotlight on what he does with the halves week in week out needs to be shone brighter. No doubt he will chop and change again next week.

Madge is trying to change our culture first and foremost. You do that by holding player accountable for their average performances hence dropping our halves who have been our worst players this season otherwise you’re showing players poor performances can be excused.

It’s not like our halves were doing well before they were dropped Benji and brooks were both average.

Never said "the" best in the comp. But it's a great young pack capable of holding their own.

Your point JT

Maguire made a terrible choice last week and it's results were played out again last night. He spoke of lessons learnt and adjusting his style to better suit working within his role, but he hasn't changed enough for mine.

I really believe In Madge to take us forward but I will say one thing: Under Potter were had some many scrum based moves, blind side raids and set moves that we were exciting unpredictable - I really miss that!

Few things for me

- roster, what other coaches had was far more potent and talented than what Madge has
- age of the roster for key player positions is also alot older for Madge
- ability to bring in big names, Cleary was the only one given cap space the others needed to spend years to clear it. Madge still needs 2yrs to clear his.
- pandemic no one else had to deal with the bubble with a team not of their choosing.
- the others also had some great junior talents to bring through

Lets be very serious for a minute only maybe 2-3 players max would make the starting 17 at the top 8 sides today. That says it all about our current side. I actually feel for Madge. Cleary left him in one hell of a hole and compared to the others he had no great talented young kids he could blood either

Cleary stuffed us up in a massive way, I have no doubts it was very intentional - he is a very very smart guy.

I'd take Potter's and JT's roster over this current roster everyday of the week. Woods Tapau Teddy Austin Simona Moses JAC Sirro Farah - nucleus of really good side. Cleary and Maguire better coaches with a poorer squad.

Austin, Simona, Moses, Sirro, Farah. No. Austin performed well enough during his stint, but the others only had their moments imo.

I'm still baffled as to why the initial Brian Smith enquiry had to take place and instigate the whole Potter removal episode. We were travelling along quite nicely at the time.

As you so often like to say. Play the ball, not the man.

Yeah it seemed to me that Potter got given the boot a bit early. Then again he never coached first grade again after us, pretty sure he was Canberra’s reserve grade coach this year?
