Madge's plans for Halves

Hi everyone, longgggggg time reader, first time poster (finally created an account).

I'm wondering what everyone thinks Madge's plans for our halves pairing will be for 2022 and beyond? It's pretty clear Brooks and Doueihi will get first crack in 2021, but further than that I haven't seen anything that suggests Madge sees Brooks as our long term halfback. Have we been active in any capacity in looking for halves or do you think this is something that will come on Madge's radar for 2022 if Brooks/AD fail to deliver?

All the best!

Welcome

In terms of halves for this year..we have some nice depth with madden comming through , and also mbye could slot into halves if needed in a pinch... walters also could slide in around seasons end when he finished his acl rehab

Besides Fullback, and Second Row the halves are probably out weakest position depth wise.
I wouldn't call Madden depth - he's young and yet to play any NRL. Mbye is a stop gap and Walters is a poor man's Reynolds.

Let's also remember that Brooks was dropped to the bench last year for poor form. Of he fails to fire early I dare say Madge will be splashing on a halfback for '22.

I think they would already be looking around for a half and/or five eighth for next year regardless. Someone established and not new. A quiet achiever. I dont know who, but Im certain the 7 or 6 has to be a real personality and the other an achiever.

I think we were chasing Burton hard but the dogs offer was just a bit too much

Personally I like AD and Brooks and think our pack has been a big issue since the days of Gareth Ellis. They remind me of the Raiders halves and I think they’d go well behind a Raiders type pack. I’m hoping 2022 we will have a much stronger team and our halves will fulfil their potential.

Let me ask, which of our forwards would make this pack?

Papalii
Hodgson
Lui
Bateman
Whitehead
Tapine/Horsburgh/Guler

Our halves aren’t a big issue.

A lot riding on AD I would say.we know what we get with brooks and it isn’t flash, good ball runner, good defender and a decent short ball.
We need a half with a good short kicking game.more creativity than brooks but less than Benji 😂 fingers crossed AD is the one 🔥

It’s all about Brooks if he does not step up he is gone , he is old enough and had enough experienced to produce weekly not every other game,. Pressure deluxe coming in 2021.

I reckon they’ll stick with AD for a few years. If Brooksy doesn’t fire they might look to the marker for a new halfback in 2022.

Not sure how good madden is and if he’ll make the step up to first grade, would be nice to have a young half as a development player again this season.

I would say 2021 is Brooks make or break year.

I know we have been saying this for years lol - but 2021 really, truly is Brooks last chance.

I was happy being patient up until last season, just wasn't good enough in attack. Great defender for a halfback though, probably one of the best.

It might be a 'make or break' year for Brooks but he is contracted through to the end of 2023. We would need to find a new home for him and he would have to want to leave....

Ive bagged Luke many times on here because I have been disappointed in him with some of his displays, however,I truely think he will perform at another level this year with a much stronger pack and a good preseason...It will be his time to shine and show us the way to finals footy...I hope for his sake he will improve, although having said that,Luke has some great qualities about him and just needs a couple of things in his favour to standout,Tamou and a couple of the stronger young guys should make his job easier and having AD beside him he can cut loose and lead the team around as he should do,no more being over called, but supported is the way for him....

Maybe Luai,it wil be panic stations at Penrith, with him Crichton and others wanting more dollars and a few clubs cashed up for 2022.I doubt Hartigan would not show an interest especially with 3 other team mates in our squad.

Its noticeable that Lee and Madge have not been making public statements about their interest in signing players eg;Cheese and Mansour.Probably told to button it by the board and Hartigan. Wisely we are no longer forcasting our interest in players.I'm confident the recruitment is looking at this year,2022,and 2023 and halves would be high on the priority list.

Luke is a momentum half. He need quick ball and space to run with players running good lines off his hips.

AD is a toiler & smart thinker. Has a good pass and reasonable kicking game.

I do think that AD and Brooks could compliment each other well if they had a ball playing fullback mixed with them.

If one goes down we are in serious trouble as have no depth in the halves this year (not that it saved us last year when we did)

That just means there’s nothing on the radar of significance. As soon as we approach a player, the grubby managers go to the press to start a bidding war.
