Madge's plans for Halves

Watching training clips etc, madden seems to get used a lot at first receiver throwing short balls to Luciano and Jimmy etc, I wonder if he’s closer to first grade than we think

Some don't rate him,but in the clips i saw he looked nippy with a very good short kicking game.I think he could be a surprise packet, and seriously we have nothing to lose in giving him a chance.

I think the time is right for Madden to step up if either AD or Brooks in particular go down injured or have form issues.

My only concern is his defence, but he looks to have bulked up a bit so that will help.

Mates of mine who are massive Knights fans often say we bagged a good one with him. Apparently Andrew Johns was filthy with Newy for letting him go and has massive wraps on him.

Joey rated Moses aswell

Things look clouded through the bottom of a schooner glass, Joey needs to clean his beer goggles.

I've always believed Madden is a great prospect. He is a good organiser, good step and has that knack of getting repeat sets. He played the first grade trial match against the Panthers and was one of our best

His cousin is the Wallaby half, Nic White and I read he is the nephew of Maitland rugby league legend and Kangaroo Don Adams.

his attacking skills are very good for a half his age and he understands the need to build pressure, but there is still question marks about his defensive abilities. given Madge's reluctance to blood young halves until they're absolutely ready I don't think we'll be seeing him covering Doueihi in Round 1, especially against a monster Canberra pack that will run at him all day.

I can't say that I know much at all about young Madden, but reports on this forum sound promising. I would introduce him gradually. I have no doubt if he is as good as some suggest, he will get a chance at some stage through the year. Many young halfbacks can get found out in defence early in their careers when they are slightly built and generally improve as they mature and develop physically. I look forward to seeing how he develops.

I'd like to see Madden given a trial by fire.
Play him in all trials with the other contenders and Rd1 when it really matters. Blood him, get him a taste to see if he sinks or swims, then depending on the outcome, take the necessary actions to further his development.
We'll never bloody know til he gets a bloody go...

Just read something about Jahrome Hughes being off-contract soon... Any takers?

He can play 6 and 1. That is what we need. I don't know how good Laurie is though. We don't want another Mbye though.

AD is a toiler & smart thinker. Has a good pass and reasonable kicking game.

I may be misguided (or simply delusional) but I can see AD being considered a top shelf half. From what I have seen, his bag of tricks in terms of his passing game (cut out balls), kicking game (spiral bombs and short grubbers) are pretty impressive.

He is a big body and he is only starting to fill out and will be more in the back rower size. I think defensively he will be sound and while not being overly quick, he does appear to be awkward to defend one-on-one.

I reckon AD is the guy we can build around. A big body who can do a lot of things exceptionally well. He has to work on certain parts of his game but he ain't no plodder.

AD's positives to me are his ability to bust the line with his running game, his spiral bombs, his passing game (so far passing to his right), an ability to catch a bomb plus he has heart and toughness. You can build around that. I see him developing into a better version of Wighton.

His big negative to me is his defense in the front line. He lacks express pace as well. I think he can fix the defense but I assume he is going to get caught out a bit especially by players like Cody Walker.

Awkward is the word I use to describe him all the time, his best attribute is his footwork at the line and it makes him very hard to bring down. That also makes him very hard to run off when he is passing at the line.

Very good summary mate.

He’s shown he’s got good awareness too, normally kicks at the right times, it’s execution that let him down but that can easily be fixed. Defence was an issue but after being at fullback all year it takes time to adjust to defending up front again. Definitely could be someone to take us into the future, he’s still so young too. Good summary mate

I know I sound like I don't like Doueihi, I do and expect him to develop into our 5/8th, just wary of putting all our eggs in that basket like we have appeared to for 2021.

In saying all that I do agree with what you have said here.
