Madge's Presser

The values he drives, specifically accountability, must extend though, all the way from the front office, to the board, to the players - else, the rabble will never be sorted.

This is what sort of bothers me with Madge. I 100% buy into what he says in interviews like this. He comes across as being honest, he's to the point and seems like a natural leader. Everything he says about our club and needing to change is bang on the mark.

What I don't understand is how or why the players aren't buying into his vision for the club. The games against Canberra, Parra and Penrith the first time had me believing. But now we're back to putting our heads down as soon as things get a bit tough.

Madge seemed genuinely hurt and disappointed by the leak to the media, so it's fairly obvious that there are some members of the playing group that aren't buying in.

I genuinely hope he can bring his vision to fruition, but he needs to find a way to manage his men, regardless of whether we need to clean them out or not.

Some of the players are buying into Maguires vision and some are not. He wants the players to toughen up, develop some resilience for when things aren't going their way, so that they can turn a games momentum and play for 80.
He is shaking the tree. The players who are resisting performing to the the new standards are the ones complaining, and that is OK with him. They have identified themselves as not wanting to be there.

I thought that was a very inspirational press conference from a fans perspective. I think Michael needs help though. He needs a leadership group helping him push the values and standards that he is trying to bring to our club. Looking at the squad I doubt he has got a leadership group worth jack all at the moment hopefully over the next couple of years he gets a leadership group around him that are actually Leaders.

Exactly right.
We need the players driving this, not just Madge

Positive press conference whereby he showed that he is the boss. I liked when he said the leaks should not happen and I’m sure he knows who it was.
The team needs to buy in and train hard or they will no be in the side or club. Change is what we need and accountability for all players.

Interested to see how we play tomorrow

Wondering if McQueen was the player leaking info to the press ?

I doubt it after reading his farewell to the club, he just got a longer deal and is already on his way to England.

I enjoyed reading this posting. Contrary to popular opinion, I believe Jacob Liddle has many of the values Maguire is looking for from his players. A hooker of undoubted natural ability, in 12 months time when fully recovered he will be one heck of a player. He speaks well and his fightback from serious injury is inspirational.

Absolutely no doubt madge is doing his job to succeed however it’s no use if the players don’t buy into it and that’s how I see it. Some obviously are, (Luciano, Nofa, Twal, Aloiai etc) and some just look interested in collecting their pay cheque

I love how he never slips up and ses something he may regret or something the media would just be all over anthony siebold was an absolute sucker for it

I like how he speaks and agree with everything he said.

...However I do remember when JT was here he said a lot of the same things about defence. The key is whether he can fix it.

Yeah I don't know our defense was better this year than under JT was it? Maybe its the cattle

The values he drives (hard work, perseverance, determination and accountability) go against the values which are ingrained in the club (incumbency, acceptance and brotherhood). And yes, brotherhood has a lot of bad connotations attached to it. It excuses accountability. We need to keep weeding out the people who continue to believe in the old values.

Except the old values are not values.

They are very bad traits.

The first name I’d put down would be Josh Aloiai for next years leadership group.

Amen!
Really impressed with Aloiai
Speaks really well, is smart and lives our new values.

I normally like a captain from the spine, but I think we need a captain in the forwards at this stage.
Someone to lead the go forward and defence. Also at 24, he could be a leader for the next 6-8 years.

Just watched Madge’s latest presser. Gave me confidence the way he stuck to his line and confirmed how we needed to relentlessly pursue changes until we are a team that consistently plays with effort and pride in the jersey

I love madge. The only reason we are struggling is just ivan stuffed up the Tigers. The board needs to have faith. If they get rid of madge we are stuffed. Too many coaches since 2011.

110% agree, this bloke *will be our forward leader*, he has bought into Madge's standards and effort equals rewards mantra, reflective of his form on the field and his interview on the website supported everything Madge has been trying to instill at the club. Madge has a loyal disciple in Josh.

Not sold on Aloiai, he's been disappointing this year.
The only blokes who have busted their gut every week this season are Luciano, Nofa and Douihe IMO. Those blokes have been the standouts for setting the standard.

And this is what is so disappointing with Russell Packer. He could be that guy. He talks about it and he has moments of showing it but he just doesn’t turn up sometimes. It’s what Madge wants from anyone willing to put their hand up.

This is the presser we wanted to hear. Honesty and no sugar coating. Madge has been working with this all season and trying to keep a lid on it and keeping it the dressing room but now the dirty laundry is on the floor. It’s been frustrating for fans to listen to ‘the belief’ and not seeing it in performances and clearly so with Madge. There’s no hiding now and there is more transparency. I think that’s a green light for Madge to make the tough calls and see him execute his vision. We’ve got four games to see if this is a turning point for team cohesion or time to ‘do the laundry‘.

Wow. Have you been watching? He’s been averaging nearly 150 metres per game. I’m not sure we’ve ever had a prop average more than that.
