Madge's Presser

Sack the coach...lol

If Madge cannot get us somewhere, no one can..Best thing that ever happened to this club.

He needs at least 3-5 years to turn the joint around though. This is a club that has not made the finals in nearly ten tears.

Madge should be our next signing. Let’s send a clear message to the NRL world, to our current players and prospective ones, that this is our relentless goal and path.

What I don't understand is how or why the players aren't buying into his vision for the club. The games against Canberra, Parra and Penrith the first time had me believing. But now we're back to putting our heads down as soon as things get a bit tough.

IMHO, it's because there are players who genuinely believe they are so good they should never be dropped.

Not sold on Aloiai, he's been disappointing this year.
The only blokes who have busted their gut every week this season are Luciano, Nofa and Douihe IMO. Those blokes have been the standouts for setting the standard.

Wow. Have you been watching? He’s been averaging nearly 150 metres per game. I’m not sure we’ve ever had a prop average more than that.

Yep, have been watching. Surprised with his 140-odd metre average TBH. Decent stats. Doesn't seem like a forward leader type eg JWH who opposition genuinely fear and his team feeds off that. Aloiai doesn't seem that sort of player.

Woods probably did but he also had a really slow play the ball and defensively was very poor on occasions. I rate Aloiai as easily our best middle forward. He is better than Woods as well.

Apart from what others have already said, a few thoughts.

Firstly some of the players might simply not be able to buy into his vision, they just aren't that type of player or don't have the ability to push themselves to the maximum every week.

Secondly, we have to remember that a lot of this roster was badly burned by the coach two years ago. There are prominent players who were brought over by a coach who had a specific strategy for them, then he left, and they get stuck with a totally different style of person. It might have been different if Cleary was sacked, but he literally ditched all those players, barely even said goodbye, then you get this new guy who starts kicking arse.

I can imagine you had this idea of how the next 3-4 years would operate, based on assumptions you made at the time you signed on, then everything was changed up.

So it makes sense that for some players, it might be a bit difficult to buy into / perform to the new vision of the club, when it isn't what you were originally signing up for. Everyone will say "oh that's how football is", but it would be the same for any workplace, where if the operations are radically modified after you sign on, it would be understandable that you might struggle to adjust.

Another very passionate display from Madge today.
I think this crisis may be the making of him at WT.

He seems to be speaking a lot more directly and with a lot more passion than he has up to now.

Handled the typical questions well given the media weren't really focused about the game tomorrow night.

Isnt it funny that the media couldnt concentrate on what Madge has planned for the game and how to beat the Rabbits, but could concentrate on the dramas in particular...

It must be awful talking to the media vultures, they are praying for anyone to make a mistake and say something that will get them more views. They couldn't care less what is he saying.

I love Madge, think he’s our coach long term but boy could we use a Des Hasler when the Roosters cheerleaders in the media try on their annual WT witch hunt. Madge should throw in a few Voldemorts and whatnot to stir the pot, I’m sick of hearing about where the club is and where it needs to get to. Sure, that’s the vision internally but I’d rather hear him comparing Paul Crawley to a garden gnome, or Paul Kent to a Oompa Loompa. Have a laugh at them for once.

He should just refuse to answer the negative questions and steer the conversation to what he wants to say.

Get Barry O’Farrell back to give him some tips on that haha

Yeah pretty solid presser I thought.

The board needs to back him and implement his vision. Coaches know what they are walking into when they accept a position, and I have no doubt that Madge was prepared to work with what was left to him, but unfortunately, certain players have not responded for whatever reasons.

I'll back him to make the club competitive. Souths still regularly figure in the finals because of him and they were a laughing stock before he took over. The club needs to back the coach, years of siding with the playing group has got us nowhere.

Very strong presence, Madge refuses to do his thinking out loud and in the media.

Pragmatic and determined.

I would love to know what he really thinks, If he ever writes a book I would certainly get it.
