LIVE GAME Magic Round v Sea Eagles

Live Game Discussion
Mostly the bottom 8 teams decimated.
They had to defend much more.
Why?
The real question is where they would be on the ladder if healthy to this point of the season, take the Tigers for instance 4 weeks ago top 4.

A couple of injuries most teams can cover any more and the quality of the side drops to the point of numerous missed tackles, mistake after mistake and giving away braindead penalties.

Api was always healthy. NRL thought otherwise

I agree, luai back to half and under the spotlight...earn your keep...and latu to 6. Or 2nd option latu 7 and luai stay at 6......madden has to go, his defence is the reason we keep collapsing on the right.
6 or 7
Let’s just say left or right side half.

Thank heavens the future is in the hands of young lads like yourself JT. Makes total sense.
Just tell me Jim had nothing to do with the suspensions of Les Boyd, Bob Cooper or Dallas Donnelly?

Jim certainly did not miss them but i never had an issue with any of his rulings because they were deserved,i followed Balmain and we had a few long suspensions also but they were all warranted. It was the best and most honest judiciary Rugby League has had.ALL clubs were treated EQUALLY unlike now.

Api needs to learn not to swing with weight from the side, by all means grab the guy but straighten up behind him before affecting the tackle, sounds simple but it obviously isn't.
That's true. The other choice is let them go, don't tackle and let them score. Maybe the latter is better RHS. I hear you man. Conceding 1 try better than conceding 3 games.

At the ref's discretion.

I was at Suncorp yesterday what stood out to me was that we were completely outclassed physically. Our players were unable to poke their head through the line aside from 2 or 3 sets right at the end of each half. Manly’s back three constantly won contact and found their front on kick returns, Mason and Laulilii constantly got bent and carried backwards onto their backs. Paseka, Olakau’atu, Brown, Hethrington all had multiple runs where they punched through the line and constantly won the momentum. Our line speed was slow, our contact was poor and our kick chase was lethargic.

I wonder if it’s fatigue after a big pre-season and 10 weeks on the trot. But we were physically embarrassed yesterday. Mason, Hope, Seyfarth on an edge are genuine liabilities at first grade level and should not take the field again.

Yeah the referring was frustrating and it seemed like every call went against us. But in the game the followed the Cowboys got absolutely hosed by the refs and managed to beat the Roosters with their Star playmaker missing.

The thing that made us so great in the first few games was physicality and effort. Those things were glaringly absent yesterday.

Mason, Laulii and Seyfarth...
You are good. You spotted our vulnerability and their goals.

Have you ever considered mushroom 🍄 soup?
Both are very healthy
In all seriousness- you nailed it.

I would love the game to be refereed the way it should be by applying both the rules and common sense, these days it could pass as touch football with the emphasis on zero contact and speed play the ball. The contest between teams has been nullified to maximise the scoring in the game.
It is a very poor substitute for the football i have enjoyed in my 70+ years of life.Certainly crack down on foul play but at least make an attempt to understand what foul play is and not just make a knee jerk reaction to light unavoidable contact.
I would be happy to see someone like Jim Comans in charge of the MRC and suspension's,he was harsh but scrupulously fair.
Just my rant.
💯 agree with you here jadtiger
The bunker doesn’t help, Referees at least would get a feel for the game and referee accordingly,
now days they have someone in their ear instructing them on what to do.
That sin bin last night for the cowboys front rower was an absolute joke he tackled the bloke front on with his chest and because the attackers head rocked around and hit the defender and got a cut in was too forcefull 😂
Give them all oztag’s
That’s my rant over

Left nut for a Haumole equivalent. Embarrassingly superior power to anything we have.
So fickle . We have one in a moonboot right now.. he is 23 and very similar to hamole , Sam Fainu .. hamole is very strong but he also had help yesterday .. our entire pack was running off a holler that throws bad passes at them, sadly hope is not NRL standard .. hopefully Benii sees this and bites the bullet ..

The NRL doesn't need to pull the refs into line, if anything its the other way around. The refs are reffing how the NRL are instructing them. And I don't mean ensuring outcomes as some believe but making the very soft decisions that they do.

I think blame should be attributed at the right place. The refs have no feel for the game stuff is just not true. They've all spent decades reffing to get to where they are and usually they have moved into reffing after a stellar junior playing career. The physical requirements of reffing at NRL level is a bit of a testament to this. But if your boss wants you to adjudicate a certain way example injuries affecting outcomes or crack down of the month then you either get on board or find yourself without a contract the following year.
What load of rubbish, if u can’t see that some teams get away with murder, and the same goes for the bunker , they have all the cameras yet they still come up with the strangest out comes .
Are u a ref or old ref , that’s the only reason I can see with ur post

I noticed with interest yesterday that Manly had Brooks playing at 1/2 in attack with Fogarty playing outside him. Interesting change by Foran and worked well, although the Police Boys under 10s would have put up more opposition than we did !

Good points Tom.
I just listened to the post match recap from Benji and Jarome. They must have said “it’s back to the drawing board” 10 or more times.
No doubt they would go back to the drawing board after every game, win lose or draw.
Benji knows what has gone wrong in the last 3 games and why things are so different from the previous 5, and why it’s not an easy fix.
My take on the flat performances during the past month points to team disruption and weakening of the esprit de corps, brought about by some players moving on and others staying, but also some perhaps in doubt about their future?
Stability is the key. Same players in same positions.
We’ve now used 28 players, only one team has used more.

Specifically, how is it rubbish? Do you really think all the NRL refs have suddenly decided to give very soft contact penalties, overuse the bin, overuse the set restart, find any reason they can to not overturn on field rulings during challenges without instructions from above to do so?

Yes, I see the plethora of poor calls every week that all teams receive. In a previous post I commented about how many mistakes refs make. I'm not suggesting for a minute that the quality of the reffing is up to standard and I have a list of opinions as to why the decline in standards has come about. At the top of that list is how the NRL want the game to be reffed.
