My god can you imagine the forum if Madge walked out.

May as well just fold as a Club..I'm serious..

I don't think it's in his character but I didn't think it was in Voldemort's either though he did have form when he quit the Warriors to go to Penrith the first time..

We better keep an eye on Madge's body language..kicking the chair could be the start..

If he didn’t see out his contract it would basically be saying to the NRL that we are a lost cause.

And would it be any better if he left at the end of 2022 .....

“Discussions have been held with Michael who has assured us he has no interest in entertaining discussion with any other club while he is contracted to the West Tigers, which is a very refreshing and commendable attitude,” Hagipantelis said.

Dig at Cleary? I like it.

It's sad that we even think like this.

Imagine reading this thread as an outsider or as someone in Tigers management.

Doubt Cleary will even hear it up there on top of the ladder.

Payten was offered the Warriors job and has knocked it back.. wants NQ.

I was of the understanding the warriors don’t want him as they are after a coach with credential. I also believe the cowboys are not interested for the same reason. Payton is better of going to the UK if he wants a lead coaching role.

There has always been unrest at clubs that Todd has been an assistant coach at. Maybe it’s a coincidence.

Payten said on FOX last night that he was offered the Warriors job and knocked it back. Seems they were very interested in him.

There you go my apologies, I was told the warriors were not interested in him and were after an experienced coach. Did he mention the contract term he was offered?

Plus is sounds as though Madge is after an extension to me

No need to talk to other clubs and if we can come to an agreement myself and the tiger's my future will be sorted

I think we extend Madge now. Let him build the team and finish the culture change. An average culture will take time to change and Madge is bashing his head against a brick wall atm, but it will change. No new coaches or instability for s while. Madge is a competitive winner so he won't slacken off

Honestly its just another case of not being proactive, and extending your coach that everybody in the club has agreed to his direction, this should have been done before the start of the year. He will clean out the roster that Ivan left him, has brought in some exciting new talent and is working towards that top 4 playing group mentality. My gut says he wants to stay and he would honour his word, not like somebody else.

Madge Is a Winner,

Our Squad in all honesty is middle of the road, We have done the analysis and truly how many Tigers will start at the Roosters or the storm etc..

Lock Madge in and let him continue the current drive for excellence and consistency that we haven't really seen in 20 years.

Rumoured to cowboys here we go again. I’ve got scars from Ivan still unless Madge commits another year I’m worried he’ll be shopping himself around

'He's given us his word': Tigers probe Maguire over Cowboys rumours
By Michael Chammas

The Wests Tigers have held a meeting with coach Michael Maguire amid rumours linking him to the vacant job at North Queensland.

**The Tigers called a meeting with Maguire after hearing he had inquired about, or had been sounded out for, Paul Green's old job.**

Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe met with Maguire, who allayed the clubs concerns, however it's clear the scars still haven't healed from the Ivan Cleary saga less than two years ago, when the now-Panthers coach walked out on the club mid-contract. Tigers officials believe an agent is pushing the rumour to open the door at the club for another coaching change.

"We heard the talk and Justin met with Michael straight away," Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis told the Herald.

"From our discussions with Michael, he has assured us that he won't be tendering any offers or expressions of interest from other clubs during the course of his tenure with the Wests Tigers. He's a quality person and he's given us his word, so I take him on that. We have absolutely no concerns whatsoever with all the scuttlebutt."

It comes as Todd Payten revealed on NRL 360 on Monday night that he had rejected the full-time Warriors job offered to him last week. Payten has his eyes on the Cowboys, where he coached previously as an assistant to Green.

That’s my decision and I’ve made it. It was tough for everyone. The club was shocked and disappointed.

“My wife’s father just started chemotherapy,” Payten said on NRL 360. “That was at the forefront of our mind. Obviously, with the COVID thing, for her to travel back and forth is very, very difficult. That was a big part of it. That’s my decision and I’ve made it. It was tough for everyone. The club was shocked and disappointed.

"Moving forward, my focus is on getting the side prepared from week to week. There’s another opportunity that’s on the table … that is the Cowboys. I’m not in any process at the moment, they’re just aware of my interest.”

For the Tigers, halfback Luke Brooks looks set to return to the starting side, alongside Benji Marshall in the halves, when Maguire announces his team on Tuesday afternoon for this weekend's clash with Newcastle.

The Tigers are also expected to welcome back Joseph Leilua from a four-game ban for his off-the-ball high shot on Penrith fullback Dylan Edwards. Prop Russell Packer is also due back from suspension.

Maguire, who has one more year on his deal with the Tigers, was scathing of his team's performance against the Warriors last Friday night as he faces the possibility of missing the finals for the fourth consecutive year as an NRL coach.

The premiership-winning coach is under enormous pressure to end the Tigers' nine-year finals drought. Despite a number of improved performances in 2020, a lack of consistency continues to plague the joint venture club.

Maguire has been ruthless with his selections so far this season, dropping halves Marshall and Brooks at different stages throughout their campaign.

The axe is now hanging over the head of fullback Adam Doueihi, who is under pressure to keep his spot in the team as the coach searches for the right formula in the spine.

In Maguire's defence, his players have responded each time he has wielded the axe, however the impact hasn't been long lasting enough to change a culture of mediocrity that has developed at the Tigers over the past decade.

Hagipantelis admitted the results weren't good enough, but doesn't believe there is an issue with Maguire's coaching philosophy or his relationship with the players despite the club winning just one of their past five games.

"From our perspective the players are responding well to Michael's vision," Hagipantelis said. "He's achieved success before and he knows what is necessary to achieve success going forward. The players are responding to that. We've won one of our last five. We recognise there needs to be a very significant improvement in attitude and performance, and they are the things that Michael has spoken openly and publicly about."

But but but....he hasn't realised it is a slippery dip.

Just me but a comment in the article seemed to suggest an applicant was interested in the WTs role hence the rumour of a move to Nth Qld.

It's the 'inquired about' that should be a concern. And Chammas generally is spot on with most WT stories, at least he used to be.

The Herald’s tone is different to the Australian article with basically the same quotes...

Has a Sheens feel to me when the Pamfers came sniffing...

Timing is weird

It would be manager driven...and it is fair enough to be honest.

Madge has a deal until the end of 2021...but there may be no jobs then.

There may be three really good jobs very soon...it is fair enough for a manger to look around and see what is on the horizon.

And it is pretty simple..."do you want to extend Madge? If so, where do we sign.

If not, we need to look around". ANYONE with only a year to go would do the same.

Madge is not Cleary.
