Apparently Madge has verbally agreed to 2 year extension until 2023

Where is that information coming from?

Big Sports Breakfast and Telegraph

Thanks but i wouldnt believe DT in any circumstances the other mob i hope is more reliable

BSB is owned by Tabcorp and don’t have journalists (either do the other mob haha) so they read the paper before going on air and run a story.

I look at it this way,a lot of the previous staff have gone, new more experienced staff have been put in place, the old boys players club has been dissolved,Benji gone,RF retired...there is a new culture being instilled and Madge is doing it his way...A WINNING WAY... I think next year will still be a bit tough.but we will certainly see changes that put us into finals contention...this is our best chance in a long time to have stability, culture change and finals in our sights...

Well that’s rewarding mediocrity... something this club does well ! Maybe some runs on the board before rewarding this smells like desperation once again ..

If your not happy with the WTs signing Madge up for another 2 years, do tell what coach realistically is?, as there isn’t enough decent coaches to go around now.

For me this is excellent news. For the first time in a long time I can see a future.

- Firstly he is recruiting youth and tonnes of it. We really as a club fell off a cliff after we lost the 'Big 4' and really struggled to introduce, value or maintain our junior pathways. Madge is investing heavily in these pathways and is rebuilding the brand holistically.
- We are aiming for big fish and even though we haven't landed anyway we are in there swinging. While we didn't land LM and we may not land AC we are in the running which is something we had failed to do for a fair while. Superstar talent at an appropriate age.
- Removing the soft underbelly. While many think madges hard-nosed approach turns players off I would ask are they the players you want. For me im sick of being bullied in the middle, I'm sick of being all flare and zero substance. I agree last season was a failure but I also think there were some signs early that we were heading in the right direction we just couldnt maintain it. We will better this year for it.
- As many have mentioned i just want a period of stability. MAdge is locked in, and you know he will work hard, Hartigan and that storm lad are here, The COE is coming soon a lot of positives. Hopefully, we can turn it around on the field.

And JAC backflips hmmmm. But then again we did sign a guy from Penrith who was considering retirement so mediocrity is alive and well ?‍♂️
But as someone said what quality coaching alternatives were available for the club so 3 more years of no finals footy.... hopefully I'm totally wrong ?‍♂️

Good move. Good luck with the off season now team is stuck with Madge for a few more years.
Tigers need stability and a hard edged coach we have to harden up.

Well Madge has shown me nothing this season that requires a 2 yr upgrade .. as discussed earlier the team has performed worse this season than last .. His only signings are a few young second graders with promise a veteran forward will he or won!t he perform. I have no problem with giving an upgrade if I see anything that likely looked like a change in the dynamic of the team improving .. all I read is conjecture hopeful and wishful thinking what might be .
I feel this is another knee jerk reaction by the club .. yes there seems some movement in the right direction but a long long way off for a couple of seasons upgrade !

I am fed up by the no finals as well. It seems the only way we can get there, is to build up from the ground, which seems to be what Madge is doing. And unfortunately we will only know if it worked in a couple of years (in hindsight).

But it's either stick with Madge, or try someone else, which means they will have to start from scratch, building up from the ground, and it's maybe 4 years till we're a better team.

The club had to give Madge the extention.....sacking and changing coaches every couple of years has put us in this situation, that now they are learning from it proves we maybe heading in the right direction of making the finals AND being competative week to week..

Everytime we get a new coach it's another minimum 3 years rebuild. The worst thing we can do is sack Madge. He is only struggling rn because he is cleaning up the crap Ivan left. The time will come

I think this is good news.
As Jack Gibson said (and evidenced elsewhere) winning starts in the front office and I think reinforcing or stabilising this area (Chair, Coach, Recruitment, Performance etc) is showing all and sundry the club is, despite the constant white anting by some sections of the media, player managers and supposed supporters that the club is solid and moving forward - it also clearly outlines the clubs position to players, both current and potential that they don't run the club so get on board or get on your bike. I like it.

Is Madge the "right" coach - lets be honest - us nuffies wouldn't have a clue - but I don't see any better options out there so I will go with an experienced premiership winning coach.....

With the coach, its the same as a player needing to prove what he has to offer....both sides of the equation need to be given that CHANCE....

Great post. Agree on all points.

I wonder if the club intend to announce any news on this ? It would be great to have some actual good news out there and not just the announcement that we changed clothing brand.

They’ll announce it when it’s all signed and official. The article says it’s only a verbal agreement at this point so might be a little while longer before an announcement, they’ll want to announce it as soon as they can so they can start working on 2022 signings
