How old is that ...training with Canberra players lol

It’s new I swear haha he’s been training with Canberra boys this off season. Must be down there with his family I’m guessing

Well for me based on 2020 form ....stay down there and stop wasting our money

Was thinking about that actually if they’re in a bubble again next year he might push for a move as all his family is down there. Fingers crossed he’s motivated as it’s the last year of his deal

The only two games he showed anything were the Penrith and 1st Newcastle game ...one he ends up getting 3 weeks and other game was when Lucy had a running battle with someone v the Knights ...Bj's defence was terrible that game and we conceded 6 tries down his side ..4 in the last 18 minutes from memory

Oh sorry he played well in the trial v NZ ..how many NRL points did we get for that win

His defence has always been his weakness but we didn’t even use his best weapon right, we needed to give him early ball and let him wind up. The rare occasion we did it he provided something for us and would score or set up a try.

The club with no centres that completely lacked any X factor out wide signed a centre who can score and set up tries. Raiders paid majority of his contract last year and this year is his final year if the club chooses not to extend him so it’s not that bad.

Not the one reason to extend Madge either haha the club thinks he’s the guy to turn us around obviously. I do too but the next two years he will have to get us improving otherwise he’ll be gone

Gonna be a long off season for you happy

Won't even be able to relish qld winning since its gonna be a 3-0 sweep

His biggest weakness is his inability to control his emotions on the field. His defence is his second big weakness. How many weeks was he suspended for that performance against the Panthers?

His signing is a clanger and if we ever have another signing of his ilk again my belief in Magiure will evaporate.

You’re right he can’t control his anger which in turn leads to a lot of defensive issues as well. His signing wasn’t that bad like I said raiders payed most of his contract last year and this year will probably be his final year, so we will have to wait and see how he goes.

Doesn't it concern anyone that Maguire was shopping himself around earlier this year?
I was filthy with what Cleary did but the difference is the Panthers approached him not the other way around

You never miss an opportunity - even when the story is a load of rubbish.

Here I thought it was a coaches job to get the best out of players he has at his disposal...

Not if they are "not players bootlaces" or they don't want to put in the effort to train or give their best on the field.

You get rid of them, he has done that to the players he can, shopped others to no avail, but they will go.

Then we will see if he can get the best out of ALL players, not just just a few.

If we don't make the 8 next year Madge has to go.
That simple, no excuses

Don't agree as he still has 3 useless players taking up 20% of the cap that **he did not sign**...
if you said 2022 I would tend to agree but considering what he walked into here he is doing an excellent job buying young talent and developing them until money comes available. We have been asking for years for someone with the balls to shake this club up and now we have him and people are not happy..

"We're not here to rebuild, or to ask for time, we're here to perform from day one. That will be my responsibility and the players from the time we get together."

Anthony Griffin

Talks cheap, he has a few duds there and not heaps of dough either - we'll see how he goes.

Perhaps that's why we only contracted him for two years with an option in the club's favour (apparently).

To be fair its only words at this stage and they have had a better roster than us..
At least his big name players are actually on the field and doing something unlike Packer / Reynolds.. I like Hook and think he will do well..

With the team Madge took over I don't think even Belly, Robinson or Bennett would of got us in the 8.. This is Tigers and not Souths so you cannot just ask a players to leave so its frees up salary cap space.. aka Roberts , Inglis, Burgess , etc...

Hunt is on $1.2m and plays off the bench and Norman is worse than Reynolds. He’s also lost Frizell.

Lets just see how he goes than before agreeing :grinning:

There is not many coaches out there that have won the NRL and ESL title and coaches the current NZ team.. You don't get given these titles you have to earn them and Madge has done that and I have full trust in him to bring this club back to where it belongs.
We can all agree that we are not a club that top line players want to come to but when they see what we are building I truly think this will change.

What he’s done in the past means nothing. if we adopt that mentality we’ll be sitting here in 10 years going ‘but he won a premiership’

We will agree to disagree..
All the players Madge has signed so far have turned out pretty well for us considering the low money he has.
LL - Outstanding and made him a 80min player and played every game.
AD - Excellent pick up and only getting better and can cover multi positions
JL - The only one i am a little disappointed with but he just needs more ball to get involved
HG - Loan deal but was outstanding and Madge made it happen
Stef - Big young talent and will be great for us next year
Simpkins - Another top line talent and will grow into out number 9 in a few years
Blore - Another you talent that will only get better with another preseason

You get the point.... He has a great knowledge of the game and picking up young talent and not losing them.
We really have not lost players that we wanted to keep sense he come here..

Agree with you 95% - I do not agree "All the players Madge has signed so far have turned out pretty well for us"

Think you forgot the "Bludger" - Mr fall over the line Jennings. He turned out real good.

Otherwise I'm on your side Jonesy.

I would like the Club to continue recruiting young players, similar to Kepaoa, Kei and young Rizk, to improve our team and depth. If we miss out on JAC, the influx of new talent will offset the disappointment of not recruiting JAC.

Does anyone share my concern that in future we again will be the target of the more powerful clubs using WTs as a talent pool? I hope as part of our renewal, the recruitment and retention team are working behind the scenes to come up with strategies to deal with the inevitable approaches.

Not if you offer them more than just money.

The bigger clubs offer success, we need to offer superior mentorship, support and desire to be at WT. Currently, I wouldn't blame anyone leaving WT for less money considering our lack of success.

We had an article on here a little while back, from the Recruitment Manager (ex Easts cant think of his name & cant find the article) and he said his role was to seek out recruits that fit the WT's, and that Madge certainly had input, but didn't always have the final say in these matters.
I guess that allows the club continuity if the coach does an Ivan?

Madge is a good coach but he still has some issues, he did not communicate with Benji about contract not being renewed and then Benji/Manager went running to the Media to force the clubs hand and it back fired, at least the decision was made and look how Benji now left the club.

I call Bull on the Benji business.

U tell me that Benji Expected an auto renewal based on what...

I have contracted b4 and this ia never ever a given and should have been discussed between manager and club.

I am not really understanding your post you might need to clarify what your stating.

Where did i say in my post anything about an Auto renewal??
There were rumors around prior that it was Benji's call but that was incorrect it was always the Coach/Club.

Agree that discussions should have been between Club/Manager and there was and Manager was told that they were still awaiting coaches input.

Benji approached Madge asked for a decision and he stated give him 24 hours and would advise, however decision had already been made not to offer a contract, then there was a leak i assume or Benji saw the writing on the wall and then thought that by going to the Media would strengthen his case.

Anyway he is no longer with the Club for 2021, and showed the way that he carried on that he is childish and ungrateful for everything the club and supporters have also ensured since he arrived back and not making the eight, nor would we if he remained as we need to build our spine to be more competitive with players that can defend and not ball hog.....

Not pinging you TBuck at all,

I'm just saying that As a contractor with a finite end date approaching, I have in the past approached by employer and sounded him out way earlier and had an indication of the decision.

Managers should be talking to clubs well before.

I dont believe Benji found out online.

I dont blame madge. though it should have been handled better and certainly in house.
