Can’t believe people are upset about the coach telling off our players for not being good enough.... isn’t that what we’ve been begging for for years?

They deserved the spray and they’ve deserved to be dropped. This is the only way to get it into the players heads that what they’re dishing up ain’t good enough. I’m completely supportive of the hard nosed approach, multiple other top coaches do the same.

I'm not upset at the spray. Did it help us get two points? I'm pissed because I want results and anyone who manages that way should at least watch the intended audience to gauge the impact.
I think it is awesome when it works and agree a massive attitude adjustment is needed. When the team cones out and plays worse then everyone looks bad. I just don't think this squad can do it and every time I get hopeful I soon find myself even more frustrated than before.

'Committed heart and soul': Maguire reassures Tigers players

Before the Tigers started training on Wednesday, Michael Maguire called his players in and addressed speculation he was looking for the exit door.

"The first thing he said was ‘I want to shut down those rumours’ and his actual words were, ‘my heart and soul is committed to winning this club a competition’," Benji Marshall said.

"And you can see how genuine he was with that. The boys were appreciative of that - that he came out and [was] honest about it. We shut that down straight away. It’s pretty much finished."

Marshall, who will play his 250th game for the Tigers against the Knights on Saturday, believed every word of Maguire's address following false reports linking him to the Cowboys coaching role.

"You only have to be here every day to see how much he pours his heart and soul into the club," Marshall said.

"He kicked the chair 50m at half-time the other week. It means a lot to him. And you don’t do that unless it means something to you."

Marshall isn't the only milestone man this weekend. One-club veteran Chris Lawrence will line up for his 250th NRL start.

Lawrence has seen his fair share of coaches come and go during his 15 years at Concord. He also believed Maguire when he said he was going nowhere.

"He literally just walked in and said 'I’m not sure if you’ve heard about the coverage but I’m here. I’m committed and I’m here to do what we need to do,' " Lawrence said. "I hadn’t really heard that. It was the first time I’d heard it. So he put it to bed straight away so we could get on with the week.

"At the end of the day, you can only take people on face value and he has shown his passion for the club and passion to try and achieve a goal that we all want to get to.

"He goes above and beyond behind the scenes trying to drive this club. And we’re making strides in that direction. For him to be able to do that - there is desire there to get this club where he knows it can get to. And where we all want to get to."

Maguire is quietly filthy with the links to the Cowboys. The Cowboys are equally dirty with insinuations they are trying to poach a contracted coach.

I don't necessarily agree with yelling at the players. I get his frustration, no different to many of us on here giving it to the players and coach when the team plays poorly. I have a mate who coaches the Coogee Bay Dolphins under 18s. Took them from last in 2018 to minor premiers and a premiership last year. He's got most of the same squad under his coaching again this year.

They are 2-0 to start this season. Last weekend they went into the sheds at halftime down 6-0 to Harbord. They were not at their best, were playing one out and getting bullied with the ball. Much like the Tigers last week. The coach simply asked his players to look each other in the eye and ask themselves whether they were playing to the game plan and giving it their all. He was met with silence when he asked them the first time. He asked them a second time and a few of the boys replied no. He then asked them to trust the game plan, play with the structure they train with, move up in twos when hitting the ball up, fall to their chest, fight for a quick play the ball and then give it some air on tackle 4, he has coached a Roosters set move into them with multiple decoys and it creates an overlap if the defence doesn't read it.

The boys came out of the sheds, received the ball and on tackle 4 had gone the length of the field and scored. They went on to win 24-12. Now if a bunch of 18 year olds can listen to the coach and put into play what he's preaching, then I'm buggered if I know why FG NRL players can't seem to manage it.

Not really. It took him ages and even then he only ever said he had a contract. Trust me, Ivan was wheeling and dealing for a long time behind the scene before he ever went public to pretend he was being stitched up by “ misinformation”.
