Maguire Signs Until End of 2023

I met up with a mate (Sharks supporter) at the Occidental hotel (Near Wynyard) last night. He saw Buzz and Dean (Bulldog) Richie walk did. I said those guys are #%$^wits. I didn’t recognise Richie but Buzz’s ugly head is hard to forget. So I fronted him and told me what I thought of the bias he has in his reporting.

Well with someone else's Roster hardly fair.

My original call was a 1 year extension but 2 years is fine.
Expectations make the 8 both years 2022/2023.

Unsure about 2021 but this off season has been all positive news so far with both Signings and Reynolds also gone to free up cap space overall the team of CEO/Coach/GM have done a quality job and kudos on stability.

That excuse isn't going to fly anymore. 3 players not signed/re-signed by Madge.

Make the 8 with our bum average squad and then get take up a deal to coach somewhere else, nice try.

Exactly. Need to take some sort of risk to achieve anything. Swapping out coaches every second year is playing it safe, but having said that is damn stupid also.. Look how that's worked out for us so far.

I agree that this season Madge needs to get the best out of the team obviously, but this only scratches the surface of the salary cap issues, player availability etc. you need to go a lot more in depth than just looking at who he’s signed and re-signed. Again not making excuses for the bloke, we should be pushing for the 8 next season but there’s a lot more to it than what you posted

Such as the last two years we’ve had very little salary cap as it’s been tied up by 3 players Madge doesn’t want. We’ve finally cleared one of the guys and there’s no one good to sign. Because of having no cap you have to sign or re-sign guys who are solid but not fantastic as there’s sometimes no other options. The Rob Jennings signing was a great example of that, same as keeping Seyfarth on a 1 year deal.

Again, if he’s a good enough coach this squad should be finishing 7th-10th (hopefully in the 8 or pushing towards it) but he’s had it very tough. It’s definitely more his team than it was in years previous though so my expectations are somewhat higher for sure. 2022 though there’s literally no excuses at all, 2021 still a little bit but not like 2019-2020

Well detailed list however 2 players on that list Packer / Mybe are on significant $ that so impact our cap still, but your analysis warranted.

Club has signed another 2 year contract with Madge and although I do question some of his methods would rather have stability and the players knowing he is committed long term.

2021 - no real expectations making the 8 however with all the positives might go close.
2022 - Roster should be complete and expectations these 2 years playing finals.

Think most forum members would state club moving in right direction, cheers.

I like where we are headed and I think our offseason has been brilliant, but he needs to start getting more out of the team. Simple as that.

You’re right it’s the same challenges that many other coaches have had, maybe worse than some but like you said Griffin is in the same spot, I just think you gotta give coaches time and can’t just judge it on the surface as it’s his squad now and that there’s no excuses at all. He’s still got plenty of changes coming to our roster in the coming year and a bit

Morris has a tough salary cap position and he got them in the 8 with a solid looking squad. Don’t see them making the 8 next year and he’ll get booted, clearly sharkies aren’t very keen on him.

It’s great to see our football department seem to know what they’re doing and have an actual plan of how they want to rebuild us. They’re not rushing and making rash decisions but being smart and methodical, now we’ve got stability in our coach too so we should just keep going up and up from here on out

2 years is pretty fair. That will equal to 5 years at the helm (counting next year of course)

Madge probably has the hardest job in the NRL to get this team firing. Longest finals drought who has been screwed around from front office down to the playing group. It feels like we are making serious inroads, now only time will tell if it will be converted to on field success

If we’re not in finals in 2022 then questions will start to have to be asked. At the very least the club has banked on the chance that we lose our coach having hartigan there.

Off field we seem to have turned around really well. Clubs making money we’ve got great staff, just up to the team to start winning games and we will be a powerhouse. We’re one of the most popular teams in the NRL we would be a massive force in the league if we could make finals consistently

The other question I guess you could ask is of the re-signed list if his hands are still tied is who shouldn't have been re-signed/extended...they are current retention staff decisions..

Only 8 re-signings...don't believe at the time there where huge objections to many a few perhaps..add to that players signed

It's the current Managements team

No finals next year would be a fail imo. I think the club needs to accept now close enough is not good enough

This years penrith team proved anything was possible in the nrl. They basically finished near last in 2019 and went straight to grand finalists the year after...

No finals next year would be a fail imo. I think the club needs to accept now close enough is not good enough

This years penrith team proved anything was possible in the nrl. They basically finished near last in 2019 and went straight to grand finalists the year after...

I still think our squad isn’t good enough. It’s very contingent on individuals finding their best form again like Joffa, Roberts, Joey, Brooks and our younger guys stepping up. If they can all get going we could for sure make finals. We’ll have to wait and see how they all go, I’m excited.

And that’s the unpredictability of the NRL. I’m sure during 2020 pre season not many people would have looked at Penriths squad and thought wow they look like they’ll win 16 on the trot and be eventual grand finalists

That's the coaches job.

It’s the players and the coaches job really, goes both ways.
