Marina Go - Members Q&A

Hopefully Simon Cook was just just exercising some sensitivity in his statements, i.e. Not wanting to kick Balmain while they are down and fighting for survival, by openly circling their remains when they are not yet dead.

If Balmain can't meet their obligations, then I'd hope Ashfield fills the breach. Otherwise the WT club has a very shaky and uncertain future.

What's the exact date Balmain need to meet their financial obligations ??

\

A deadline of March 31, 2016, has been set for Balmain's debt to be settled with League Central. If they are unable to find the money, they will be forced to sell their shareholding in the NRL club within six months, or it will be bought by Wests.

Well Chris, if you are certain that Wests Group are not interested in buying 100% of West Tigers, I hope you are saving your Frequent Flyer points so you can watch some home games in Perth, cos that is where an NRL controlled board will volunteer to send us

From what i have been told it was said at Wests Ashfield last AGM that they weren't interested in acquiring anymore interest in WT.

Exactly what I heard.

So we have to wait for 6 months after March for it to be settled. Another season basically.

So it looks like we will again get the crumbs seeing as the NRL will want the best for their clubs. As Ms Go has so kindly reminded us that we are not beholding to the NRL, we are indeed independent.

Part 2 was released today so for anyone who missed it here is a bit of a summary
Q1\. Are business targets in 15-17 strat still acheivable
- Challenging yes but achievable
- Want to make sure WTigers breaks even without having to ask for money to cover shrotfall from investors
- Want to be asking for investment in growth but need to break even first
Q2\. Timeframe and what looking for new CEO
-Crown Marks as above
- Shortlist in 2 weeks (so prob 1 now) already seen a long list
- lots of great candidates
- looking for a step change person
- Focus on growing revenue line and needs to make change quickly - costs are well managed revenue is the issue

Q3 - Advise length & tenure of 3 nrl appointed directors
- Made it very clear they aren't NRL appoint directors. They are independent
- Were chose by a panel with reps from both balmain, wests and Dave Smith. One shareholder was very vocal about getting the board members they wanted I am guessing Wests Ashfield
- Are now independent directors and have no ties to the NRL any more then any other board
- 3 year terms, sounded like she would stay on
- Independent directors are appointed by current board including independent directors themselves

Q4 - Will independent directors tenure be affected if Balmains shares are sold elsewhere or bought by wests
- No- Constitution lays out governance structure so 3 independent directs will be on board no matter what and chairman will always be independent
- individual directors decision to stay on may or may not be affected depending on who owners are - my guess this means if one party has all 4 it may be different as independents could be outvoted

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Interesting to see Part 3 today - really sounds like 6 games at ANZ which is a good move and then figure out what we do with the rest. After watching the 3 parts really hits home that we should be focused purely on making money because our choices are being profitable and winning games or loosing but keeping traditions

No more Balmain or Western Suburbs heritage jerseys. Only Wests Tigers moving forward

Ive been pushing this for a few years now…glad to see we have already moved forward this year.

Maybe next year our first jumper

I was disappointed with her comments on sponsorships. 9 clubs in Sydney - ok I get it but TPA's are a form of sponsorship and we know that 3 or 4 Sydney clubs get the lions share and we get nothing.

Emphasis is on doing what's best for Wests Tigers rather than Wests or Balmain which is a good way forward concentrating on what's best for the club itself and not other interests. Probably 6 games at ANZ next year which leaves 6 home games to be shared between Campbelltown and Leichhardt however I wouldn't be surprised if they take 1 or 2 games either to country NSW or interstate particularly if NRL supports such games financially and to further raise Wests Tigers profile. It will be interesting to see how the plan goes to try and link Wests Tigers with migrant communities following Ms Go's discussions with the Mayor of Liverpool in an attempt to grow the fan base and I guess perhaps sponsorship.

Theyve already begun with several stories on 20's player Obed Kharwin

Good point demonstrates putting the plan into action now to see if they can gain traction.

Wasn't this year's heritage jersey a WT Heritage Jersey (2005)?

Either way, I am a supporter of us emphasising the 15 years of WT history, but not to the exclusion of Wests & Balmain. We are in the unique position of having over 200 years of history, why are we not exploiting that and celebrating it all? Others might not agree, but for me Robbie Farah, John Skandalis, Benji Marshall and James Tedesco should be as important in WT's history as Jim Stack, Robert Graves, Alf Latta and Jim Abercrombie. It can be our competitive advantage off the field in our club culture, a respect of everyone who has represented WM, BT & WT in the over 200 years of history.

We can't do it maturely.
It always turns into an.us and them west's balmain crapfest.
We all have our individual memories. ..thats where it now ends.
like it or. Lump it.
This might sort out the genuine supporters from those conditional ones

Totally agree Cunno,Iam very proud that our club was formed by the coming together of two famous foundation clubs, however as you say WESTS Tigers is who we all support and West Tigers is the club playing in the NRL that needs to grow in stature and financial security…
WT have had its ups and downs and realistically the problems that are at the WT have been caused mainly by the two factions of the JV...in order for this great club and team to go forward it must stand alone and be known as the WTs solely, for the purpose of survival and growth.....
As for the WTs taking a game to regional areas or interstate, that would be a great idea, especially for the purpose of marketing and promoting the club..

Do we actually think Balmain are going to be able to sustain the Millions expected every year as there share ,even if they pay back the millions they already owe and why would a 3 rd party just throw away millions of $ just for a seat on a board that does not make you any money just costs you millions a year?
I would not take what has been susposable said at board level at Wests to seriously ,with the new upgraded TV deal in 2018 full ownership of the Weststigers would be an attractive proposal and certainly would not be a cost restrictive deal.there certainly would be more upside considering they already own 50%.
