Other than being a fan he knows nothing about the way a football club is to be run. Does he know how to market the club, does he know how to recruit, does he know anything about sports management?

As already noted, that's mostly the CEO's job, not the Chair's.

But it goes back to my earlier comment, how can anyone think that a former Premier of the largest State in NSW isn't qualified to Chair a football club? Tigers are, by many magnitudes, a much smaller and simpler operation.

Spot on. Some here are happy for a bloke who's a bit sketchy on the salary cap to be our CEO
but dont want an ex premier to be chair.
WTF is going on?

Wouldn't be too worried what Comrade Carlton wrote about a Liberal politician.
Besides that, he's not a jockey but he's doing a pretty good job as CEO of Racing Australia.

I think it's a great appointment. The guy is 'connected' and will be in an excellent position to bring corporate dollars into the coffers.
No one can debate his capacity to chair a board of a football club - surely!

At the risk of being a very large hypocrite I agree Happy. When I heard of the appointment I was very upset and blasted off some posts which frankly I am now ashamed about and apologise for. Anybody who is willing to give their time and effort to improve the Tigers club should be given an opportunity to succeed. Running a club like this is not a simple or easy task. Frankly its a thankless task and he doesn't need people like me and others taking pot shots at him.
I look at Barry's career and realise how much he has achieved and realise how little I have and how much I have not given to this club. If he is willing to give it a go I will give him my support. Maybe he will have the magic panacea that will fix all our woes at the NRL, heaven knows we need it.
And as for calling him an old fart, I realise that I am 1 year older than him. So Barry, from one old fart to another, good luck mate give it you best shot.

After such an inspired appointment of Marina Go, the appointment of O'Farrell is poor. Most undetstand when you accept a gift in Govt, it is the unwritten premise that something will be expected in return. We complain about players not heeding club education on the treatment of women but are prepared to give a politician a pass on the giving and receiving of benefits. The hiumble public servant is no doubt well aware of house or her obligations. Finally, those silly comments about being left wing may come back to bite you in a few weeks.

I wouldn't go as far as calling him better than most - there's a certain type with politicians, and a long time in the job just emphasises those parts which "regular folks" don't like. Pollies and lawyers, never popular except when they are providing something to you personally.

Watching the interview, BOF is as smarmy as he always was… BUT you need that kind of level and measured speech, careful word choice and no appearance of stumbling or deliberating in front of the camera. In that respect, an ex-polly is a perfect Chair, used to saying lots whilst really saying nothing, because you don't want the Chair spilling club beans.

Wow I didn't realise there was no pay? They are on the wrong boards then!

But people like BOF and Marina, they have their noses in many troughs - I assume the paid board positions all add up to a reasonable salary.
