"I've never liked moving Robbie before because I don't like strengthening one (position) and weakening another, but I think Mark at his best could certainly play 9 and Robbie could play 7."

No offense Timmy, but over the years you've seemed to love doing exactly that.

Anyway I think Riddell would be a great signing especially if the NSW selectors finally wise up and have Robbie as the permanent number 9.

That is a harsh call TP!

The reality is that even when we had Morris who was a better 9 than 7 (+ Halatau who was incumbent NZ hooker) - Farah retained the 9 for 99% of the time as our no. 1 hooker!

Faffy has only had to play in the 7 under desperate circumstances when we have either run out of halves due to injury - or because we are losing and something desperate has been required!!

Out of his total 143 career games - only 13 have been played at half!!

And that is exactly what Tim stated - that Riddell may provide some flexibility if injury claims our real no. 7 candidates (as it did in portions of 2010)!

In the above article, it mentions the possibility of Farah playing 7 to accommodate Riddell. Has anyone run that possibilty past Farah

Please read the full article - Sheens refers to it as a remote possibility - essentially only to be considered if all our other halfback options were unavailable or not gelling!!

He stated his aversion to making such a move - making it clear that Farah is our first choice hooker with daylight second!

I am sure that Tim is even more reluctant about moving Farah to 7 (even if strictly by neccessity) - than Robbie is himself!

The fact is that Sheensy has been grooming two of the best young 7s in the game in Lui & Moltz (+ add young Miller) - so unless lightning strikes twice - Farah should be secure in the 9 in 2011!

But as for needing to speak to Rob - he knows his role in the team and he is fully prepared to do what is best for the team under given circumstances! That is why he is the captain!!!

Assuming that Riddell plays little NRL then what NSW Cup side will he be allocated to, Balmain or Wests or the Bundy Cup side Campbelltown Eagles?.

He'll definitely make the Nsw cup.. I can't see him going from an ESL final to Bundy cup.

i heard a rumour that the campbelltown eagles wont be in the bundy cup next yr

Hes not coming, will sign with Chooks. They have offered more money and will guarantee him game time. Confirmed by a family member this a/noon.

I had a feeling that something like this mightve happened because he was meant to sign days ago and it never happened, then there was the article about Sheens not giving him any game time. Wouldve liked him at the tigers but certainly no big loss.

100% on the mark. Is also now on smh.com.au

mainly points the finger at being back up to a proven 80 minute player.

HOOKER Mark Riddell will make his NRL return with Sydney Roosters after the former St George Illawarra and Parramatta cult figure rejected an offer from Wests Tigers in favour of the beaten grand finalists.
>
Never one to follow a script, Riddell signed with the Roosters although he had already completed a medical for the Tigers, on the same day one of his former Parramatta teammates, Eric Grothe, also completed a shock manoeuvre, retiring from the game.
>
Riddell, who returns to the NRL after two years with Super League champions Wigan, had an 11th hour rethink largely due to the likelihood he would have to play second fiddle to Tigers captain Robbie Farah, and might have to play Premier League.

>
Thus Riddell, 30, will reunite with his former Eels coach Brian Smith, who took the Roosters to the NRL grand final this year, serving as back-up for Jake Friend.
>
Riddell is more likely to get time on the park at the Roosters given that Farah is a proven 80-minute performer, while Friend is not.
>
Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys was last night philosophical about losing out so late to his rivals. ''We wish him well,'' Humphreys said.
>
Tigers coach Tim Sheens had been brutally upfront with Riddell, who cut short his three-year deal with Wigan to be closer to his ill mother, telling him he might be forced to play for Balmain or Wests while Farah was fit and playing 80 minutes.
>
Riddell's about-face was not the sole surprise yesterday. Grothe's abrupt retirement has left Parramatta without another outside back as his move follows the inevitable departure of troubled centre Timana Tahu.

How the heck do the Roosters manage to stay under the salary cap, good luck to Mark at the Chooks but fair dinkum Ian Schubert should spend less time on South's case and look closer into his 'original' club.

Well Sheens really did his best to make him feel wanted eh? :unamused:

I'm glad Sheens was honest with him. Why feed him with BS only to have him want to quit the club because he was made promises we didn't deliver on.

Just hope it doesn't come back to bite us on the backside (i.e. Farah injured.)

I think you'll find that while Watts is injured he will be exempt from the cap if he is ruled out for the entire season, freeing up the money for Riddell under the cap. Same thing happened with Tuiaki

How ironic ….. the club that has been our nemesis in 2010 finished the year getting under our guard to sign Riddell.
Oh well, would have been good but I'm sure we'll manage without him.

Just heard the real reason why piggy didn't sign with us.

Folkesy had one look at him and went straight to sheens and said 'we're gonna need a bigger gym!'
