Marquee Player in Salary Cap

Now that Harry T is no longer 'associated' with the club this is where I had imagined a few 'private meetings' may have occurred in regards to how he could still 'help' the club. With that association not being there in regards to sponsorship I'd imagine Harry may have come in with a few 'donations' or organised for a few key players to possibly make an appearance in the corporate sector via Meriton in an effort to get cash to players outside the cap.

What's to say that we could've paid Teddy $800k (basic market value) on the salary cap and Harry chucked in $1.2m in outside the cap via external TPA.

I get Harry didn't build his empire by giving away money, He owes the club nothing, but truth be told he's up there with the richest in Australia and could virtually bury any club trying to steal our best players if he wanted (or could be convinced to).

My opinion is that somewhere along the line Harry had enough of the board and was a bit filthy he was knocked back on purchasing a share of the JV. From memory he wanted the entire club or nothing at all. I do remember reading an article when Harry handed over his keys advising that the club had an external use for Harry, but didn't venture as to what it could be. No doubt Harry loves the club and it was a bit of a side-hobby for him which is surprising considering his cash was invested into 'other means'. I'd love to be a fly on the wall and know whether he simply just didn't want to throw his money around which is completely reasonable or whether there may have been another reason which turned him off it.

The only other rational thing I could think of is somehow Harry may be involved with this new $57m development that's being proposed.

Is there something in the salary cap that allows us to give a player an additional "salary cap excluded payment' for a marquee player??

I seem to remember hearing something along these lines and was thinking if that is the case we would have most definitely thrown that at Woods or Tedesco. If that is the case then surely that leaves us in quite a good position to go after a "marquee" signing.

Can someone confirm if I'm correct or maybe just making things up in my own mind :crazy :crazy

Currently 600K outside of the Salary Cap which can be paid by Club Affiliated Sponsors (TPA's)…can be to 1 player or distributed among a number of players...

That $600k goes a long way at Bondi, Belmore and Brisbane

It sure does you can buy a fair few brown paper bags with $600k

Yeah the idea of the unlimited TPA thing is to allow the likes of Billy Slater to earn $$ for his Powerade ad campaigns, without punishing the Storm.
In reality, the system is heavily abused by pretty much everyone.

That's where Broncos have a big advantage being the only NRL team in a city as big as Brisbane, heaps of TPA's.

Brisbane are an absolute rort to the game. Just the fact that I'm stuck watching them almost every single Thursday or Friday night as the main game peeves me off. It's such an unfair advantage to other clubs to consistently get a long turnaround every single week.

How long will it be before the NRL gets real and reduces it to a six team competition? All marquee players, all rich teams, level playing field.
