There's just something magic and sentimental about it. I'll be gutted if Benji isn't able to deliver another premiership in that period of time, but all the same, I'd still be might proud we had such a phenomenal player as a one club man. Especially since it's almost a formality that Farah will be with him all the way.

They will be our El Masri's!!!

One team players who proved just how good they were on the field and off it too!

3 Cheers for the Tigers,Mr Marshall and Mr Farah too! (Let's not forget Robbie's long term commitment to the club in all of this!)

lots and lots of articles in all the papers this morning about this

I am very happy that Benji is staying although I am a bit surprised how much we are paying. It says over $2 million for the extra 4 years. I didn't think we would pay any player over $500,000 a year. I definately hope the salary cap does increase now.

Big score … Benji Marshall scores for the Tigers last year and now he has scored for himself with a $2 million four-year contract extension which will see him cross the line at Leichhardt many, many more times. Photo: Getty Images

Benji Marshall says he wants to repay a debt to Wests Tigers for persevering with him through his injuries after signing a lifetime deal with the club. And he's determined to do it by winning a premiership with the Tigers between now and 2015, the final year of his staggering new contract.

"I just can't see myself as anything other than a one-club man," Marshall said last night.

Marshall will celebrate his 25th birthday today by announcing that he has signed a contract extension that ties him to the club for at least the next six seasons. The New Zealand captain is already contracted until the end of 2011 but the four-year extension alone is believed to be netting him more than $2 million.

The five-eighth told the Herald he was desperate to win another premiership with the club that stuck by him through a horrific run of injuries after he helped the merged entity claim its first title in 2005.

"That's everyone's goal," Marshall said. "On a personal level, I haven't had so much hunger and drive, ever. I contemplated rugby in the past, I contemplated changing [NRL] teams, but I never really wanted it to happen. The club's looked after me pretty well. This gives me security in the game, and financial security as well.

"The decision wasn't that hard. The club's been terrific to me.

"I feel like I'm a pretty loyal person, and I want to repay them for what they've done for me through my injuries. And I feel like I'm starting to get back to the old me."

What's more, Marshall hopes his long-term deal might convince other Tigers to follow suit.

"If I can start by being the first one, maybe that will help signing other players," he said.

Marshall celebrated the new deal, and his birthday, last night with a Chinese meal in Crows Nest with Tigers officials, who have only recently pulled off the coup of securing dual international Lote Tuqiri. But NRL officials will no doubt be equally enthused.

Marshall was one of the best players in the competition towards the end of last season, along with Parramatta's Jarryd Hayne, who has recently re-signed with the Eels until the end of 2013\. Having those two players on NRL books for so long is a shot in the arm for a code that is bracing for a new AFL club in western Sydney; the two most popular players in the region have now been locked up for a significant period.

Only this week, Steve Gillis, the manager of Parramatta's Daniel Mortimer, said his client would not sign a deal in excess of two years because of the money potentially on offer after a new television rights deal is struck. Marshall admitted there was some gamble to his own decision.

"It's the longest contract I've ever signed," he said. "But for me, and what the club's done, I just feel like it's the right time, for my security, and for my wellbeing."

What a Champion Bloke…Shine on you Crazy Diamond.

If only the Club had listen to me years ago and had gotten Scottie Prince's wife a townhouse on the water at Cape Cabarita......he would have stayed as well, been neighbours with Benji, and the rest would be history.

Trust me, Benji loves it there, and it must have helped his decision to stay at Camp Concord, a pleasant 6 minute drive down the road.

PS, Benji must have spent hours in makeup & wardrobe for this shot!!!....the NRL's answer to James Dean

Benji Marshall signs long-term deal with Wests Tigers

A HEARTFELT conversation with assistant coach Royce Simmons on an Australia Day harbour-cruise helped convince Benji Marshall to become a Wests Tiger for life.

The Tigers will today announce their biggest star will remain at the club beyond 2011, possibly until the end of 2015.

Skipper Robbie Farah was delighted by Marshall's signing and said the club now had long-term stability in its key positions.

Football manager Alan Mair said Marshall, 25 today, first hinted at re-signing with the club during a summer get-together on the harbour.

"We were on a harbour-cruise and Benji came up to Royce and asked him what it was like to play for one club and if he was proud of it," Mair said last night.

"Royce said it was a great honour and Benji agreed. Royce and I didn't say anything at the time but we got the hint then. It's great Benji will re-sign because we've seen what's he gone through, he's played injured at times and done it tough. This is great news and he deserves it."

Things could get better for the Tigers with dual international Lote Tuqiri all-but given the blessing to cut short his rugby deal with Leicester to return home for the Tigers' opening-round clash with Manly.

And The Daily Telegraph understands coach Tim Sheens is also about to extend his deal at the club, with an announcement imminent.

Marshall last week said he could not be happier at the club and wanted Sheens to commit beyond this season.

"Obviously everyone knows we have a great relationship and I love being coached by him. I'm here for another two years and hopefully we'll see him here longer as well," Marshall said.

"I haven't felt this good for a long time. I've been working hard and looking forward to playing.

"Since I've come back from the [Kiwi] tour [of England] and seeing how keen we all are compared to last year, it's great to see. I don't think anything less than making the eight is acceptable this year."

The Tigers recruited Marshall as a 16-year-old and he made his debut in 2003\. The flashy playmaker remains one of the NRL's biggest drawcards.

Farah inked a long-term deal last season and had no idea Marshall was about to commit.

He also hoped to see Sheens extend his deal, declaring: "Tim and Royce have taught me everything I know about football.".

Not even an old mate could lure away the cub who became the king of the jungle

NRL chief executive David Gallop last night hailed Benji Marshall's decision to commit to Wests Tigers for the next six seasons.

The four-year contract extension, which will ensure he remains with the Tigers until at least the end of 2015, is a boost for the NRL and New Zealand Rugby League, with Marshall last year becoming Kiwis captain.

His decision to commit long term to the Tigers comes less than two years after Gallop blocked a proposed move by Marshall to play rugby union in Japan and the NRL boss welcomed the news the playmaking superstar was now likely to play out his career with the joint-venture club.

''Benji is one of those rare breed of players who excite fans nearly every time he touches the ball,'' Gallop said. ''It is good to see him make a long-term commitment to the Tigers. He is a great fit at that club.''

The Titans were among the clubs to have previously tried to entice Marshall away from the Tigers, using the lure of playing alongside his 2005 premiership-winning halves partner Scott Prince and the lifestyle of the Gold Coast, where he attended high school.

But Prince told the Herald that Marshall felt loyalty to the Tigers for giving him a chance as a 17-year-old schoolboy and standing by him during an horrific run with injuries, including five shoulder operations, that threatened to rob the game of one of its most exciting talents.

Marshall was not named yesterday in the Tigers team to play Cronulla at Gosford on Saturday night but is expected to recover from the ankle injury that forced him from the field during last weekend's trial against Sydney Roosters in time for round one.

Tigers coach Tim Sheens has moved boom rookie Tim Moltzen from fullback to halfback for the Sharks clash, with Robert Lui shifting to five-eighth. Former Cronulla utility Mitch Brown will play fullback against his former club, while Bryce Gibbs returns from suspension.

Happy 25th Benji, On you your BD you have given us a great present.

Good Luck and God Bless.

Take note Greg Bird, Paul Gallen, Willie Mason, Nate Miles, Todd Carney and any other boof heads I missed….. This is what a classy player/person is. Study him, ask him questions, mimic him, do whatever you can to be like our Benji and you may too, someday, become a better person that what you are.

I'm not only proud of Benji for staying a Tiger for life but I'm also proud of the way the club has acted in signing up so quickly. Benji Marshall, Stephen Humphrey's....... Thank You!

BENJI MARSHALL A 'TIGER FOR LIFE'
Thursday, 25 February 2010

NRL superstar Benji Marshall has today devoted himself to being a ‘Tiger for Life’ after committing to his beloved Wests Tigers for the next six years.

On the day of his 25th birthday, Marshall has put pen to paper to a new long term deal that will keep him at Wests Tigers until the end of the 2015 season.

The announcement was made at Taronga Park Zoo, where earlier in the day Marshall got up close with a Tiger. His team-mates Robbie Farah, Tim Moltzen, Taniela Tuiaki and Chris Heighington were on hand for the announcement.

Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys said the new deal with Marshall is one of the most important in the club’s history.

'“Benji is undoubtedly one of the most recognised and most profiled sport stars throughout Australia and New Zealand,’’ Humphreys said.

“Securing his services for the next six years is a critical piece of our strategic plan. Benji provides enormous value to Wests Tigers both on and off the field and we are absolutely delighted that he will now become a ‘Tiger for Life’.”

Marshall said he was proud to become a one-club man.

“This club has looked after me from the very beginning when I was a young schoolboy at Keebra Park High and have been very loyal to me through the good times and the hardships.

“The Wests Tigers are like family to me. Tim Sheens has played an enormous part in my development not only as a rugby league player but as a person as well.

“There is a very strong culture here and I know we are on the verge of something very big. To be a part of the Wests Tigers for the next six years and to have my future secured is a great feeling.

“My best is still ahead of me and I want to be a strong leader and help develop the outstanding talent coming through at Wests Tigers.”

Wests Tigers Coach Tim Sheens said Benji’s decision was great news for the club.

“Benji is one of our leading players who you can build a good future around,’’ Sheens said.

“He is invaluable and I am delighted, as I am sure all Wests Tigers Members are, to know he will be with us for the next six years.”

NRL CEO David Gallop applauded the new long term deal for one of the game’s biggest names.

“Benji is one of those special players that generates excitement every time he touches the ball,’’ Gallop said.

“He’s just a great fit for the Wests Tigers and its good to see him commit to a long term agreement that members and fans will be sure to celebrate.”
