THREE weeks ago I wrote that Benji Marshall would either win - or lose - the 2010 premiership for the Wests Tigers.

And when it came down to the business end of last night’s ANZ Stadium thriller - he lost it.

Without doubt, the Tigers would not have made it as far as the grand final qualifier without this engimatic genius wearing the number six jersey.

He is the absolute superstar of the code and by far the biggest drawcard in the game.

But a cold and hard analysis of last night’s game will show that St George-Illawarra won because of Benji’s blunders in the final 10 minutes when the contest was up for grabs.

You could argue that in the first half the Tigers gave away too many penalties and you could also argue Benji was the reason they went to the break with a 12-6 lead.

But what you can’t argue about is that the Dragons are in the grand final and Benji is on annual leave.

In the 73rd minute when the Tigers were looking for field position, Benji sprayed his fifth tackle kick into touch on the full.

The Dragons took five hit-ups then Jamie Soward showed ice-cool composure to bang the field goal over that ended up being the difference.

There were still six minutes remaining and the Tigers were still in the football game.

The Tigers were desperate but ready to launch one final challenge but Benji knocked the ball on and it was game over.

So the Dragons march on to play the Roosters next weekend in the big one. It’s shaping up as a classic contest to decide the premiership.

The Roosters, a brilliant attacking unit led by Mitch Pearce and Todd Carney against an outfit that plays with machine like efficiency every week.

The ref lost the game for us, the amount of times they were offside, geez, I hope somethin next year goes our way. When Lote got kneed, there was no penalty! Wake up to yourselves :unamused:

what a dope that is sport and life in general every1 will remember the MISTAKE u made not the brilliant consistency over a season . thanks benji for giving us a chance to make it !

Sheens lost the game for us, by playing ryan in first grade and having a back on the bench all year getting between 0 and 3 mins .

We lost because the football god deserted us when we needed him most. Injuries, dusty calls all went against us. Marshall was fantastic all year, Beau Ryan did okay and Sheens well how can you complain he got a busted team to one point from the 2010 Grand Final

And Brian Smith got last years wooden spooners to a grand final in 2010.

the man is an absolute moron.

he's always looking for a negative to provoke so he's insignification blog can get some hit.

Benji we love you

Rothfield is a clown….he can't wait to stick the knife in ...he hates Sheens...he hates the Wests Tigers and he certainly has a dislike for Marshall....

Not surprising at all that he chose to pen this bunch of tripe...

Cue the mandatory Hayne Plane/Train story and it's just another week in the sports department. He can be bitter all he likes, Wests will win ten more premierships before that bitter old prick will see cronulla lift the trophy.

The Rooster last year were coached by a clown (Anasta to fullback anyone?). It was an even worse than not having a coach. Add to that they get a superstar in Carney, who was forced to curb his ways by being sacked from Canberra. Canberra were the big losers in that deal.
I'm not saying smith is a bad coach - he is a great coach, but he got a team that should finish in the 8 every season to 6th.
And lets not forget - if Heighno picks up that ball after the scrum - Roosters drop out in the first week.
IMO Sheen's achievement this year is bigger than Brian Smith's.

 Should have went with Pritchard….

Gibbs 57 mins
Galloway 51 min
Fifita 21 mins
Murdoch 22 mins
Dwyer 38 mins
Ellis 80 mins
Heighington 72mins
Fulton 58 mins....

All NRL coaches have a bench player that get minimal to no game time every week..Sheens use of the bench and more time he gave to those benchies was the most he has in months....

Unfortunately the Pack was just missing 1 tiny ingredient last night...A little bit of Payto...

Stupid Sheens ....

The Dragons defence contained Benji surprisingly well, forcing him to take a couple of high risk options. He didnt have any real choice if we were to score points.
Still think Murdoch & Fifita (& of course Fitzhenry)were underutilised given the no of tackles we made early, the injuries we were carrying & tough recent matches. My guess is Sheens didnt want to expose two rookies to too much game time,& if thats the case maybe(gulp)Skando should have been there as one of the reserves
We just ran out of steam after giving it all,& bench utilisation wasnt our best asset.Just like all year
Cant get away with it forever

A timely reminder, I must buy the paper today as I'll have a lot of vegetable scraps to wrap tonight after I prepare my baked dinner.
