THREE weeks ago I wrote that Benji Marshall would either win - or lose - the 2010 premiership for the Wests Tigers.

And when it came down to the business end of last night’s ANZ Stadium thriller - he lost it.

Without doubt, the Tigers would not have made it as far as the grand final qualifier without this engimatic genius wearing the number six jersey.

He is the absolute superstar of the code and by far the biggest drawcard in the game.

But a cold and hard analysis of last night’s game will show that St George-Illawarra won because of Benji’s blunders in the final 10 minutes when the contest was up for grabs.

You could argue that in the first half the Tigers gave away too many penalties and you could also argue Benji was the reason they went to the break with a 12-6 lead.

But what you can’t argue about is that the Dragons are in the grand final and Benji is on annual leave.

In the 73rd minute when the Tigers were looking for field position, Benji sprayed his fifth tackle kick into touch on the full.

The Dragons took five hit-ups then Jamie Soward showed ice-cool composure to bang the field goal over that ended up being the difference.

There were still six minutes remaining and the Tigers were still in the football game.

The Tigers were desperate but ready to launch one final challenge but Benji knocked the ball on and it was game over.

So the Dragons march on to play the Roosters next weekend in the big one. It’s shaping up as a classic contest to decide the premiership.

The Roosters, a brilliant attacking unit led by Mitch Pearce and Todd Carney against an outfit that plays with machine like efficiency every week.

everyones intitled to an opinion and that is yours. Tigers were very lucky to even get as far as we did this season. The last 5-6 matches were won on luck-just like st george did last night.

Aaargh, are you still not allowed o swear on this forum?

Mods, can we please have a swear free day (Just 1 day)

Rothfield is the ultimate keyboard warrior 😱pen_mouth: 😱pen_mouth: 😱pen_mouth:

Love Benji and the tigers just the way they are :sign:

Benji has won us more games then he has lost us, including a grand final in 2005\. Rothfield pfft… There are 13 players on the field not even comment worthy. He needs to be a real journalist and find relevant stories to report on.

Sad bitter Sharks "fan", who finds it easier to kick someone while they are down rather than write a constructive measured piece of balanced journalism.

After one of the best prelims in recent memory, Rothfield comes out the next day and blasts a guy from the losing team, rather than giving credit where credit is due (to the Dragons). Must kill him that the Dragons are in the big one and they are against the man who ran over his dog all those years ago in Brian Smith.

Rothfield = troll

Not a journo, he writes to get a reaction, nothing more.

The king of amateurs

Agree. Not even worth a rebuttal. It's articles like this that remind you he has no cred as an observor of RL let alone as a journo.

I looked at my Dictionary and the only words to describe this person were swear words and all of them top class..So i refrained from posting those.
Benji is a superstar and we all love him . We refuse to blame him or any other tigers player for the loss..
Go tell your mum what a XXXXX son she has instead , sure she knows all about it ..

Rothfeild is a goose! He has no idea and has a vendetta against the tigers! I do not rad the dribble that comes out of that sharks supported mouth! Maybe he should write about his own team…oh no, that's right! They didn't make it! You poor poor man!

" benji has ability. rothfield does not." end of my article

Benji and Rothfield. One will wake up tomorrow as one of the best in the world at what he does, the other will be a dribbling red-faced hack.
