I understand Benjis love of touch and the desire for the touch organisation to maintain him as the face of the sport however it surprises me that WT have allowed him to play in the State Cup in Port Macquarie this weekend. I would have thought off season training - especially this year would be far more important. Plus there is also the possibility of picking up an injury playing in virtually an unregulated environment when compared to the close monitoring that would occur at WT training. For WT to be a force in 2013 we need Benji to be at his best.

I'm not too fussed, players would have been given the weekend off, instead of resting he is playing touch, great fitness.. Highly doubt he would have missed anything with the tigers

I can't open the link from my phone so i can't read the article in question but it seems odd we would let Benji play considering Anasta wasn't allowed to play golf in the NSW open. The only thing I can think of why we have allowed Benji to play, is because it's being held over the weekend and it won't effect any of his commitments to pre season training.

Its Benji though, you know….Benji Marshall

Braith not allowed to play golf

Looks like some things never change...so much for the boys club :blah :blah :blah :blah

from what I remember, Braith would have had to miss training as golf was during the week, whereas Benji is playing touch on the weekend. Sounds fair enough to me.

Yep Anasta would of missed Thursday and Friday of pre season training but there is also a chance Benji could suffer a injury playing touch and that could of been a reason why WT's knocked back his request though.

Sack Marshall.

This is an outrage…...and sack Potter.

I bet he had lunch while he was up there......bet there was butter on his bread.

Wests Tigers superstar Benji Marshall will be in action today at the State Cup.

WESTS Tigers fan? Or perhaps just a footy lover? Don't miss your chance to see Benji Marshall in Port Macquarie today.

Marshall, the man with the biggest sidestep in the game, will play for Wests Magpies in the men's open division of touch football's State Cup.

To check out the man himself in action - and some top quality touch, too - head to the Tuffins Lane fields this afternoon.

Benji's first match will be at 3pm on field 2 and he'll back up at 5.55pm on field one.

I hope he goes well.

Anyone worried about him getting injured just needs to relax a little I think. A Souths player missed a season after falling over his daughter at a BBQ and he is just one of the many players who have missed games due to hurting themselves outside the field of play.

Very true Allan. Or maybe they need to ban BBQs as well!! I don't see playing touch being any more dangerous than normal team training and certainly less dangerous than ordering cheeseburgers at McDonalds…

The point was Anasta wasnt allowed to play golf…Marshalls allowed to play touch...whether those things impacting and not impacting on team training is the difference between one getting the green light and the other not...well, thats yet to really be determined, if it is the case, fair enough.

I see where you are coming from however as other people have mentioned Anasta would have needed thurs/fri off which I'm guessing was training. Benji has always had that he is allowed to play touch footy into his contract. A few players do. Issac Luke plays in my comp. Keith Galloway and Roy asotasi play oztag down at Cronulla.

I don't love it either. I tore the ligaments in my ankle by simply jogging backwards In defence in touch. Ideally benji wouldn't be allowed to play but potter would be starting a fire if he tried to ban it considering it's written into his contract.
