STAR playmaker Benji Marshall has slammed rumours and ongoing speculation of a rift at the Wests Tigers between him, coach Tim Sheens and captain Robbie Farah.
Last week reports were rife that Farah and Sheens had fallen out over the hooker’s non selection in the recent Four Nations Tournament.
The reports went on to claim such was the magnitude of the rift that Farah could walk from the club to join Parramatta.
This story was slammed by Farah and the club a day later while speculation of a falling out between the big three reared throughout the year, Marshall has cleared the air confirming he and his captain are close friends on and off the field.
“When I got off the plane (from England) he (Farah) was the first person I called after hearing about what happened with his mother to make sure he was ok,” Marshall said on 2KY’s 'Big Sports Breakfast'.
“We’ve been best mates since we came through together when I was 15, 16, so to hear all these things I don’t know where it comes from.
“I just hate hearing rumours.
“The best thing about our club between the players and the coaches, we know we’re a tight bunch.
“We do everything off the field together and the funny thing about what gets written in the papers is I’ve never seen anyone quoted saying there is drama, it’s just a headline and a story which doesn’t have much in it.
“For me there’s no dramas at our club.”
In a season where Marshall had a lengthy court case hovering over his head for a majority of the year, accused of assaulting a patron at McDonalds in March, the five-eighth credited the help of his team mates and coach for getting him through the ordeal.
The 26-year-old’s charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm were dropped in August and Marshall says coach Sheens was a giant help to him during that period acting more as a friend that a mentor.
“It was a very tough year,” he said.
“This is the toughest year I’ve had to date that I can remember to have that (court case) hanging over me… going through the legal process I couldn’t comment or clear my name at all, I had to ride it out.
“Every time a court date came around I had to sit down with Tim because I get quite nervous and it’s something that’s way out of my comfort zone.
“A couple of times I had a couple of bad games because I was stressing out about what was happening in the courtroom and I sat down with Tim and he was very good, that’s the best thing about Tim, way from Rugby League he’s a friend.
