Marshall wants Lewis at Wests

Wests Tigers superstar Benji Marshall has added his weight to the push to bring Luke Lewis to the club.

Tigers captain Robbie Farah and coach Tim Sheens have already spoken out about their desire to bring Lewis, who will leave the Penrith Panthers at the end of the season, across.

And now Marshall is hoping the outgoing Penrith back-rower will be persuaded to move to Wests.

"He's such a great player and would be a great addition to any club," Marshall said.

"He brings a lot of heart and soul, like he displayed during his career at Penrith, and the way he plays the game is quite a tribute to the sort of person he is - such a great guy, loved on and off the field."

The Tigers ended their three-match losing streak with victory over Penrith on the weekend and Marshall hopes that form continues against the high-flying Cowboys in Round 20.

"Just winning the game was a start for us after three losses on the trot," Marshall said.

"It was a bit of a tough run there, but just to get a bit of our confidence back and we built a couple of good combinations there. It wasn't the perfect game for us to lead into this, but at least we're building."

Two points separate the Tigers and the Cowboys, but Marshall isn't keeping an eye on the ladder.

"I haven't really looked at the table because Sheensy (Tim Sheens) encourages us not to," he said.

"We've just got to take it one game at a time, that old saying, everyone says it but it's true. This week it starts with the Cowboys and we'll worry about whoever after that."

Gareth Ellis will make a welcome return from injury for the Tigers in Townsville on Monday night.

i would like him at the tigers but at what cost he is 28 or 29 so what he is he worth per year , marshall would have to be on around 500,000 farah 500,000 ,blair 500,000 thats a big hole into cap.and we have some great kids coming on. please keep the kids they are the future of w/t

So we have our Coach, Captain and Head of Recruitment all publicly stating we want Lewis. Our intent is pretty clear.

I am actually in the camp that hope we don't sign him. I think he is a good player, but he will be on massive money, his career will soon be on the slide and importantly it means we will definitely have two players in Origin next year.

That is the bonus of having Ellis, Blair, Benji and Moltzen - they can't play Origin.

Come on , of course they watch the ladder

What you reckon they will get to Round 26 and say "Who next Tim" ??

"Sorry boys , see you at Mad Monday , we finished 10th "

I suppose we should keep our fingers crossed for Mad Monday as well after the last 2 years

I see your point. I am a little concerned about the age thing if we sign him. We have some ageing players in our side and there is going to be a stage in about 2-3 years we will be a very old side. This day in two years the following players will be the following age:

Farah 30
Benji 29
Cashmere, Heighno, Bell, Utai 32-33 if still here.
Anasta, 32
Lewis, 30

Not to mention Galloway, Fulton, Reddy will be late twenties. Long term we only have Lawrence, BMM and Woods at this stage as proven young first graders (Not including Moltzen or Ayshford who I can't guarantee will be in 1st grade in 2 years).

Said before its all about getting the right balance, we have a team that is chock full of experience but lacking young legs. We are getting the Dads Army look. Although I highly rate Lewis, Iam not sure if we can add both Anasta and Lewis to the same squad

Someone just wrote on twitter Luke Lewis to sign with the wests tigers as soon as 2moro.

Here is that tweet:

NRL star Luke Lewis set to ink a new deal with Wests Tigers. **The former Cronulla Shark could be a Tiger as early as tmrw**

Yup, that's a reliable tweet.

It was posted on twitter by an AFL journo named Tony Sheahan.

Does anyone know anything about this guy? Why would an AFL Journo write this kind of stuff? I now understand why he said "former cronulla shark".
