Benji Marshall wants the Wests Tigers to retain coach Tim Sheens

BENJI Marshall says the Wests Tigers should dump coach Tim Sheens only if there's a better candidate.

"And in my eyes, there is no one better (than Sheens)," Marshall said.

"It's part of sport, when a team is not having success, the first person they usually go to is the coach.

"We've seen it with (Warriors coach) Brian McClennan and (Parramatta's) Steve Kearney," he said.

"But you don't go out looking for another coach if there's nobody better.

"I think the way we play, he (Sheens) belongs here with us, and I really feel he should be here, too."

The Tigers have been the biggest flops in 2012, especially given their star-studded roster and the pre-season expectations, which had them premiership favourites with the bookies.

Should they lose to Melbourne on Saturday, it will mean Sheens-coached sides have reached September only three times in 15 years.

It is an abysmal record that has sparked fresh calls from angry Tigers fans to see him punted.

Marshall, however, said Sheens had full support of the dressing room, and he was still learning things about his game under the veteran coach.

So if it isn't the coach, where has it all gone wrong for the Tigers?

Injuries in key positions have not helped.

Marshall said nobody at the Tigers expected to be where they were sitting this late in the year.

"But we're here now, and we can't change anything," Marshall said. "Let me tell you, if we do get up and win this week, which I'm confident we can, and other results do go our way, you don't want to play us."

Hahahaha no wonder supporters of other clubs think he is a tool. I love the bloke but jeez leave the talking for on the field. If we do somehow make it I reckon other clubs will be tripping over each other to play us

Emabarrassing and pathetic. Its a disease with this club, just can't keep their mouths shut. Almost like that little guy down the pub whose all talk but when it comes time to use his fists disappears quicker then Harod Holt

Benji, I love ya BUT, do ya think just maybe the way Tigers play is the reason we are currently 9th. One positive is if Marshall felt the need to comment on Sheens tenure here, maybe the Coach is under the pump.

When the way you play means making the finals twice in 6 years and getting bundled out in ridic circumstances both times maybe you should CHANGE the way you play?

How long can we be the "best attacking team in the NRL"? If the best attacking team in the NRL can't make the finals and put in shocking games like last weekend I'd rather not be the best attacking team in the NRL.

Maybe it's just a gimmick to get young fans or something and they really don't care about results. Sure seems that way sometimes with Sheens selections.

The most annoying thing with Sheens this year has that he has basically been experimenting with the side until Round 26\. This was a shut up and deliver year, not a tool with the lineup all friggin' year, year. We aren't in the position that Penrith are in, we were supposed to shut up and deliver. It wasn't the time to be experimenting with the Farah at 7 and Lawrence at 6 tried and not true methods. This was the year to put Miller at 7 and stick with him. If he had have done it for the first 6 weeks imagine where he'd be by now? I know he has looked pretty slack in the twenties this year but he is talented enough to have deserved first crack and who knows what he could have been if he was given the jersey and told it was his.

Unfortunately Benji, we are your biggest stakeholders. The club needs fans and runs on fans. You more or less WORK for us. So that means that what you want is irrelevant.

Its Humphreys that runs the show and there in lies the problem.Rewards Mediocrity and was the one responsible for getting rid of Gibbs(Was our rock in defence) and if he had his way would of seen the back of fulton. :crazy :crazy :crazy
