Marshall

Benji has gone backwards? U guys who think this are idiots. Since 2010 (last 3 years) benji has been top 3 in LBA and TA in the league last year he was #1 in try assists (37) and #2 in line break assists and #5 for line breaks by a half. Yeah he's gone backwards

And remind me again Gun ,who had the most errors play maker wise B Marshall 37

Thurston fires in the biggest games (SOO) every game

Benji goes missing against the top sides

Comparing Thurston and Marshall any more is ridiculous

Really?? How many premiership grand finals or grand final qualifying games has thurston won? ZERO. Big time performer? Dramatically failed as a club performer in big games

And if we picked the Qld side to represent Australia I could guarantee we would win the World Cup undefeated

The problem is we start picking those NSW nuffies (bar Gallen) and thats where the problems start

Gun you find the 2010/2011 Benji and I will genuflect him until dawn :master:

But Benji Marshall isn't the 2010/2011 player anymore and I think if you asked Benji he would agree

Robbie creates half of Benji's tries with his decision making ,Benji just throws the last ball and about half of the time gets it right

36 try assists /37 errors

Benji was poor last night, no two ways about it. Fact is, we really didn't look like scoring at all and a big part of that comes down to Farah and Benji who are our go-to men. We just played far too conservatively last night and had no speed on the edges.

My issue with Benji is that he has the No. 6 on his back but he insists on playing halfback! We haven't had a balanced side since Prince left. Benji can't control a team because he more often than not plays for himself, his own showreel. Let Miller play as a 7, and Benji as a 6\. Ever since he got his channel 9 contract Benji's game has become confused and he's very conscious when the camera is on him. Cronk, Thurston and the Reynolds boys don't have an ego and are very focused when on the paddock (one may say they have the 'eye of the tiger').

His decision making has been very poor, particularly in his kicking game. He reverts to the grubber a lot these days and they're mostly ineffectual. He selfishly chips for himself rather than using his team mates, and he's had some shocking kicks recent (eg. missed goal last night, and out on the full last week). He's best when he runs the ball, we have enough other kickers in the team.

The major issue with a player like Benji controlling a team is that his teammates don't know what he's going to do so they're always flat footed. They all stare at him because he's making it up as he goes. The good teams today have good structure to make the hard yards, and flair/speed to break tough defences. Benji's antics does nothing to use the quality of the players he has at his disposal. For all the good things he does, there are just as many brain explosions. So on balance, why do we pay him so much?

If Benji doesn't improve i'd be putting Moltzen at 6, Tedesco at 1 and Benji at 14\. Farah needs to pick up his tempo as well, he's looking a little sluggish the past 4 rounds. Some of his passes have been smothered because he's been late to get rid of it.

Easiest thing Benji can do is play the number on his back. Let Jacob control the team and take the majority of the kicks, and give Benji space to run and use his centres and wingers like he used to.

Benji isn't too blame for tonight everybody's love child tedesco has been the biggest weakness responsible for 3 manly tries

Hush child, every one of those tries was Moltzen's fault. If Teddy missed the Wolfman twice, Moltzen should have been there to back him up. If Teddy dropped the ball in goal, Moltzen should have been under it already. We should cut Moltzen immediately.

Welcome to West Tigers forum, try not to think too hard.

It was Tedesco's first full game playing out of position and getting a late call up. It was almost Sheens like playing him out of position with little preparation. He was 2 on 1 with Lyons and Williams and did his best, where was Moltzen ? That's right he was contemplating how to kick the ball out on the full from the kick off AGAIN.

You obviously are a specialist at not thinking too hard. Moltzen does as little as possible. He does not cover defend and does not support the ball carrier. Yes He can kick out on the full on a regular basis but who can't.

You mention 2010/2011 as when Benji was playing well. Doesnt that mean last year was his first bad year for a number of years? One bad year (when he was played out of position) and he's of no worth? I find that a tad harsh.
A few years ago Farah wasnt playing well enough to get ahead of Ennis. I suppose he should have been punted aswell.

Coming from the person who wants to punt Galloway when we are missing about four props, that's a bit of a laugh.

Marshall was rubbish last night. Seems he is a protected species by some.

IMO he hasn't played an outstanding game against quality opposition for a good year and a half. And his kicking game is consistently dreadful.

Yet despite this he still has to play on both sides of the field and do most of the general play kicking. Why?

Just my opinion, you're entitled to disagree without insults.

When is the last time Marshall played an outstanding game against quality opposition, not garbage like Parramatta and Penrith?

For once, can we just forget about the team we played. If we have a great game against "garbage teams" we automatically downgrade the performance. Have you even thought about why Benji was on last week and off tonight? The whole team as a collective were disheartened after being unable to score points. If we aren't firing it's hard for one man to be on his game, we can't expect him to carry the team and play a blinder week in and week out. Do you ever see a quality player, play a good game if the rest of the team isn't? Very rarely. And Benji wasn't atrocious, he was just unevident. He made tackles like everyone else, he passed and kicked. He made few errors and few missed tackles. If anything thats a good game for anyone. At least he attempted a chip kick to spark the team, unfortunately he came out 2nd best.

Fully agree.

Marshall has been woeful for 2 years now. I don't understand why he continues to be the one kicking the ball when he clearly can't kick. His grubbers suck, his bombs go backwards, kicks out on a full in general play, and what about his penalty kicks to touch? Barring his long range effort which didn't find touch, he usually kicks it 10m!! 10 whole freaking metres even when we are in our own 20

Any other team will get 30m gain on a penalty kick.

Crab walks horizontally and then waves his hand to a player to run back on the inside and dishes to him for suicide run. What's his average run metres the past year and a half? 40m?

If McGuire was the coach, Benji would be playing reggies since last year

All this negative criticism of almost every player in Wests Tigers FG is not helping the club at all. Let's not create a civil war within the club. Take the bad times with good. You will enjoy your football much better. Teamwork within the club (players and fans) is essential. Times will get much better very soon for this club if everybody is aiming in the right, postivie, direction.

No we can't forget about the team we played. The best players step up in the big games, against the big teams.

I'm not expecting miracles, just a competent performance. If you are happy what he dished up the other night then you and I have different standards expected from someone who is supposed to be our second best player.

Our forward pack has been belted most weeks for the past few years but still its usually Farah carries our team on his back. So yes, a quality player can still play a good game even if the team is not

As for the chip kick, yes I saw it. Did you see what he did when it didn't come off? He stopped, stood there and watched a Manly player gather the ball and run about 25 metres, not even attempting to chase him.

I remember at the time thinking Josh Reynolds would have turned and chased on that. Benji to me just lacks any hunger these days. I know it's a long time ago but if you go back to 2005 the kid was everywhere chasing everything. Enthusiasm and hunger. Two very important ingredients.

I too thought he seemed to give up on that play.
Even if it seems impossible, in pro sport you shouldnt be doing that…no diff to Parra turning their backs last week
