Lodge is off contract end of this season and his next contract should be dependent on his first 12 weeks

At this stage you couldn't offer more than a two year contract

He still has a long way to go

I spoke to one of his relatives and he will be there for at least one year…

I'd go with a 3 year option. I think he'll turn out as good as Woods.

I saw a lot of him as youngster and he has always been amazing, Penrith were really disappointed when Melbourne signed him (and suspicious about the money offered). I expect him to play almost only first grade this year, if he does play NYC he will be ridiculous at that level.
I would like to sign him to decent length contract for sure.

I think 2 years is adequate at the moment IMO
I don't think we can afford to give players long term contracts at the moment . I'm positive lodge won't be a dud , but we've been burnt with long term deals like Lawrence / MOLTZEN & Galloway not really eating their keep .

Supposing Lodge comes good on his potential and is a long-term quality prop option for Tigers, I wonder what the Storm fans will say about when they let him go. This could be our ownFifita moment.

Why would Lodge want to be contracted for more than 2 years at this stage of his career? He's only played a handful of games. Anything he signs now will be at relatively low salary, despite his potential. In 12-18 months' time he could be a rep player and deserving of earning much more.

Maybe the club wanted to sign him for the next 3 years but his manager didn't want to short change his client? If he's confident in his ability and fitness then the security of a long term, low salary contract wouldn't be appealing.

I'm happy to pay him what he deserves based on form over the next 12-18 months.

Has the same potential as Aaron Woods at the same age… Its obvious he has the mobility defensively to succeed at NRL and will be in our Starting 17 each week.

TIGERS EXTEND FORWARDS DEAL

Wests Tigers prop Matt Lodge has signed with the club until the end of 2017.

Lodge joined the Tigers mid last season from the Strom, starting in the front row during three of his four NRL games.

“I signed for three and a half years, so last year, this year and another two,” Lodge said of his contract.

“It happened when I first came here but I just didn’t put it out there.”

Obviously you are the only one who knows. Manly are struggling to keep their two star halves let alone us trying to keep our whole spine and 2 origin forwards in Woods and Lodge.
