(X+2)÷(4-X) +2 = 2÷3

This is my son homework for yr 9.
We get answer x=6 but book says x=22.
Which we have worked out how to get but both working appears right and we don't know why.
Depends on if you x by 3 or 4-X first.

Thanks in advance

(x+2) / (4-x) + 2 = 2/3
(x+2) + (8-2x) = 8/3 – 2x/3 [multiply all elements by (4-x) to get rid of denominator on left side)
-x + 10 = 8/3 -2x/3
22/3 = x/3
22 = x
It's a bit of bodmas plus rationalisation of the equation.

It's bidmas .....@Geo has to worry about bodmas

It's BIDMAS if you use the term "indices" or BODMAS if you use the term "orders" but I'm guessing you're talking about something completely different to maths.

lol there is no indices..so therefor coiventy is 100% correct..it is BODMAS..which = happy proves again he is no smarter than a 5th Grader..

See how you jumped in AFTER the experts worked it out

Vote 1 @hobbo1 new Mod .....fresh meat

Maths is a language, maths like language in many ways absolute. (1+1 =2, red is a colour) in many ways it’s ambiguous. I guarantee the teacher gave you that question to start a conversation, which it has...

He's top of his class. Only he was given a page of them for homework that question being the last 1 and a little harder.
The first division of the question was written as a fraction but I changed it to post as I couldn't write it that way from the phone.
We went wrong multiplying the bottom of the fraction when we shouldn't have

BODMAS is something u learn at a early grade

Don’t you learn about your BOD MAS in PE?

Year 10 Maths is extremely important ...all the workings from their are used in Year 11 and 12

If he does well in Year 10 he will kill it in 11/12
