Matt Allwood to sign for tigers

Bit of a worry he was let go by Raiders early and if this was true let go by Warriors 1 yr into a 3 yr contract. He is a good solid defensive centre and would be cheap as Warriors will be paying most of the cash still which would be good.

However a big concern being dumped by 2 clubs

I honestly don't rate him at all
Very average signing if true

I have seen nothing from him to warrant an NRL contract, and obviously the warriors don't rate him either as he has only played 1 NRL game this year.

He wasn't dumped by Canberra. He was playing consistently in first grade. He signed with the Warriors and then Stuart dropped him. Another highly rated junior who hasn't kicked on. Worth a look.

Yep, your spot on. Never got a look in NZ, mind you their outside backs are phenomenal, so local juniors have been the go.

He could come very cheap if so.

It's really a no risk signing. He has plenty of potential.

Haven seen much of him personally but like I said in another thread, Stuart publicly rated him as a very aggressive centre. Said something along the lines of "he hits like a brick wall". He then picked him in every game until he signed for the Warriors. Stuart then went in another direction which is fair enough.

Do we have a story / source for this

Don't get my mate Col angry with a facebook / twitter / on the dunny wall at Leichhardt gossip OK

Only hard hitting insider info ,thanks

Liked him at Canberra tbh.
No disgrace that he's not got much of a run at the Warriors - their outside backs stocks are fairly ridiculous.

A few Warriors' fans believe he is headed to the WTs as part of the cleanout. I believe he is on a 3 year contract so the Warriors are likely to be contributing to his salary if true. As someone has previously said, he played well at the Raiders.

If this is true he would have 2 years to run on his NZ contract, which they would have to stump up some part of unless our management stuff that negotiation up.
Which would probably make him a no risk signing, but I don't ever remember watching him thinking geez he goes OK.

Excellent

I trust a few Warriors fans

If it had of been a few WTs fans , well …......

All good Col ??

If we are going for Ex- Canberra NYC guns I would much prefer Brenko Lee…with Lulia and Croker at the Raiders in front of him...

Allwood had raps not bad if Warriors a carrying some cost...

I know the tigers have spoken to a few NZ Warriors…
Names were Ken Maumalo and Charlie Gubb.
GREAT SIGNINGS if we COULD get them.

This isn't the guy we want/need...
Hopefully not but whatever, could be worse.

Canberra Raiders released Matt Allwood in secret
Date September 11, 2014
Chris Wilson, Jon Tuxworth

Probed about their failure to recognise Allwood in any end-of-season functions, the Raiders confirmed they had released Allwood weeks ago, but refused to disclose any details of when or why.

He became notable for his absence during farewell dedications, but departing Canberra Raiders centre Matt Allwood was secretly sent packing almost two months ago. Probed about their failure to recognise Allwood in any end-of-season functions, the Raiders confirmed they had released Allwood weeks ago, but refused to disclose any details of when or why.

Allwood, who has signed a three-year deal to join the New Zealand Warriors from 2015, would only describe his mysterious departure as "personal". Allwood's absence had gone unnoticed, given he was used only sparingly by the Raiders since signing with the Warriors in May. Despite starting the first nine NRL games of the season in his rookie year, the Raiders junior was dropped after announcing his deal with the Warriors and played only two more games for the season. Allwood was the only departing player not named on a farewell banner at Canberra's last match against Parramatta and he wasn't acknowledged in speeches or video tributes at Wednesday's Mal Meninga Medal function. Allwood was instead in Darwin on a fishing trip. "I got a released a couple of months ago, just some personal things," Allwood said.

This all sounds a bit "fishy" to me Newt,he maybe another Lodge type that can't keep in line..I could be wrong, but also could be right…

If he is known as being a strong defender and is not a plodder in the pace department, than he is just what we need. I do remember seeing him play for the Raiders, but nothing really stood out about his play,so you can read that two ways,he either did nothing special or he did nothing bad
