He became notable for his absence during farewell dedications, but departing Canberra Raiders centre Matt Allwood was secretly sent packing almost two months ago. Probed about their failure to recognise Allwood in any end-of-season functions, the Raiders confirmed they had released Allwood weeks ago, but refused to disclose any details of when or why.

Allwood, who has signed a three-year deal to join the New Zealand Warriors from 2015, would only describe his mysterious departure as "personal". Allwood's absence had gone unnoticed, given he was used only sparingly by the Raiders since signing with the Warriors in May. Despite starting the first nine NRL games of the season in his rookie year, the Raiders junior was dropped after announcing his deal with the Warriors and played only two more games for the season. Allwood was the only departing player not named on a farewell banner at Canberra's last match against Parramatta and he wasn't acknowledged in speeches or video tributes at Wednesday's Mal Meninga Medal function. Allwood was instead in Darwin on a fishing trip. "I got a released a couple of months ago, just some personal things," Allwood said.

"

This all sounds a bit "fishy" to me Newt,he maybe another Lodge type that can't keep in line..I could be wrong, but also could be right…

More like James Gavett TT. Still I really hope he makes the best if his opportunity with Wests Tigers.

I cant say I saw much of him at all when he was at the Raiders but he seemed to get alot of wraps at the time he was playing 1st grade. His impressive defense was constantly talked about and he chipped in with the odd try as well from memory.

Personally, if the Warriors susidise part of his salary I'd definately take him on…...its not like we have much better ATM and we are short in the back's department.

He'd have to be a better buy than Idris who is highly injury prone and would cost at least twice as much.

On his efforts alone at the Raiders, he's head and shoulders above Hoeter, Milone, Seve, Heleta and so on. And Its not like the Aitkens, Whare's and so on are lining up to come to the Tigers ATM.

A no brainer IMO.

Allwood played in both NSW under 17 and 18 age group teams so obviously he has talent. The Warriors coach who played and coached at the Raiders brought him to the Warriors and noted that he is quick and has good defence. At 185com and 93kg he is a good sized centre.

Just a week after being appointed head coach last May, Andrew McFadden showed how highly he rated Allwood by making him his first signing. Matt made 11 first-grade appearances in his debut season last year. The speedy outside back represented the Warriors for the first time at the 2015 NRL Nines.

I'd say the main reason we're pursuing him is the fact that the Warriors would be topping up his cap. We get a depth signing for minimal risk and minimal coin. Good move.

It would be nice to have someone part paying for one of our players for a change especially if it doesn't cost WTs much plus Allwood adds some depth where it is needed.

You mean like the Dogs and Taupau..?

Can't say i remember anything about this kid. He sounds physically pretty average stats wise for a current day centre (same size as Simona who's hardly big) but if he's fast and aggressive that can more than make up for it.

I'd be more than happy with any re-inforcements in the centres given our budget woes.

A mate who has/had a relative in Canberra's system at the same time told me Allwood was the laziest trainer they had and generally had a poor attitude. If that carried on at the Warriors it doesn't bode well if he ends up at the Tigers.

Do we have a story / source for this

Don't get my mate Col angry with a facebook / twitter / on the dunny wall at Leichhardt gossip OK

Only hard hitting insider info ,thanks

A few Warriors' fans believe he is headed to the WTs as part of the cleanout. I believe he is on a 3 year contract so the Warriors are likely to be contributing to his salary if true. As someone has previously said, he played well at the Raiders.

Excellent

I trust a few Warriors fans

If it had of been a few WTs fans , well …......

All good Col ??

Great. A few fans and facebook just cannot be wrong. I'm convinced.

Thanks mate.

Happy if he brings that back rower falita mariner (sorry spelling). Excellent body type, young, hungry and looks the goods. Been solid from what I have seen.

What do u guys think? Long waiting list at the Warriors for regular forward positions.

I know the tigers have spoken to a few NZ Warriors…
Names were Ken Maumalo and Charlie Gubb.
GREAT SIGNINGS if we COULD get them.

This isn't the guy we want/need...
Hopefully not but whatever, could be worse.

Watching Gubb now, and no thanks, he has nothing we don't already have, and he is a cheap shotter, should be Charlie Grubb.

A bit more mongrel wouldn't hurt 851\. We don't already have much once you take Lawrence and Galloway out of the pack. I am happy with anyone that has size and can defend tight.

looking like he'll end up in England according to the Mole

ALLWOOD GETS TAP ON THE SHOULDER

The Warriors have told former Raiders centre Matt Allwood he is free to find a new club in 2016.

Allwood joined the Warriors on good money this season and hasn’t been sighted in the top grade. A move to England is on the cards.

Might come down to who's prepared to offer the Warriors the most $ for him. If that's the case it may not be in our favour, but depends on how many clubs are actually interested in him.
