Matt Bell - one of the better defensive forwards on roster

Surprised no discussion on here about Matt Bell. When is he due back?

IMO he is a very underrated player and arguably our best defensive forward behind Liam Fulton. He tightens up the ruck and will really help the younger forwards when he is out on the field.

His fitness will be flat when he returns but IMO he needs to be played as a second rower and spend at least 60 minutes on the field.

A solid workhorse, definitely agree that his main benefit comes on the defensive side of things. Hope he recovers soon and we have him as an option, although not sure who you drop as Ava, Sue, Buchanan are all doing well. Maybe Thompson?

thompson for me with bell replacing sue at lock

i think we might see buchanan dropped (or rested) whenn bell anfd galloway are both back

agree with OP. he's a solid defensive forward. in the mould of nigrl plu. tbh his value at us is even more mainly coz of how crap are defense is that it makes him look so good

He'd be my first choice 13 with Fulton and Sue 11 and 12\. I think if we had bell, fulton and farah all on we could have a very strong defence (relative to what it is now :laughing🙂

But then the problem of Anasta/Blair comes up. Blair to bench on prop rotation and braith at 7.

I think he will provide some much needed muscle we have been missing. I don't think his a log term solution must be coming close to the end of his career soon

I would prefer him in the second row when he returns. All the front rowers are performing at or above expectation, hell even Blair seems to be improving and I'd be reluctant to let him go back to the second row and bludge out wide.

I'd bring Bell back in for Thompson, could use his defensive ability on the left.

Fulton is a Defence specialist
Bell is a work horse and has great impact, Defence is top notch. When Bell filled in for Heigno at lock last year we were really onto something!!
For mine I would have Woods and Keith Starting (Id prefer Keithy as an Impact front Rower… But he is the only Domestic outside Woods we have really)
Bell at Lock Fulton one side, Sue the other... Sue has Pace, Strength and Aggression... If he could put on a touch more, He'd be devastating!!
I'd rotate Bell with Buchanan... He's another workhorse, Will take the dirty hit ups (Like Bell) and keep the Ruck nice and Tight around the Middle (Can move up to prop if needed).
Ava, Bodene, Anasta, BMM, Pettybourne, Groat, Gavet etc Can all be rotated as required....
8 Galloway / Ava (Similar Style Runners)
9 Farah
10 Woods / (One of the other Props... Whoever is playing better)
11 Fulton (Rotated with Bodene for Impact)
12 Sue (Rotated with BMM For impact)
13 Bell / Buchanan
Let's see them roll us up the middle then.....

Bell should be back in around 5 weeks if hand is strong enough and has full movement and strength back. his injury was a fractured hand and ruptured tendons in 2 fingers resulting in needing a tendon graph hence the 3 month recovery.
but it's his first injury in 8yrs of nrl so he should be ready to fire when he's back on the park
