Matulino

Stated last year i thought we bought a pack of duds…..mcqueen....grub, milne and matulino.....provided great value

Milne Drugs …Mats won us the game against Storm I do not have a problem...Grub lets see how that pans out I think will be a good signing...McQueen who knows has not had a go as yet but will I suspect .

No excuses for being caught on the last. Especially coming off a break in play. You have to have match awareness. Same goes for Marshall who passed it to him.

Dissappointing for me

Was expecting him to be our best signing and hasn’t played to his hype

Hoping he gets his mojo back when Packer is back

Can say the same thing about Grant he is good in small stints… he would have been wanting to make a point today.

* Matulino should never have got the ball in that situation, gotta give half the blame to the halves for not taking over.

Yep. Benji got tackled with the ball Brooks should have been demanding the ball. Hasn't been good closing out games in the last couple weeks.

Benji passed the ball to Mats, so was totally to blame. Grant went well, taking his opportunity to shine.

Exactly, I expected him to be the leader of the forward pack, and he hasn't been it's that simple. He's our senior player with rep honors in the pack and he's not leading the way.

Grant was great wasn't he. At least we have some good depth this year. We've lost 3 games by 2 points, been in every contest, plenty to like about this team.

By the end of the game our forwards were killing theirs, we didn't lose because of the forwards.

Too much pressure on the spine when your best hooker plays 30 minutes and Benji tries to control the game just when Brooks was looking like the difference.

I've been trying to not rip in to Benji, but enough is enough. He has been making it very hard for us every week since round 4 and is still having his praises sung. This is why people have written off Reynolds too early, Benji makes 2 or 3 of our top 5 dumb plays every week for a month and we start to lose games. No coincidence for mine.

He feeds off Packer's energy.
Without Packer we're very weak.

Once Packer is back, Matu will improve.

Mats edge is his ability to offload. Trouble is when we start games like today with errors and it's happened other games they put the offload away and you take away his and the teams main weapons is time in possession wearing other teams out.
That's why guys with bad hands need to be dropped till they fix it. Start with Aloila Nofo Godinet especially for his dumb plays and penalties.. Were going ok but in our losses we didn't hold enough ball and conceded too many penalties and didn't hit hard enough especially with Packer and Twal missing and when Lawrence was out and they seem to go to stage 2 of minimising their attack to stay in the game.

I thought Mats played alright. He was really the lone prop today, Hooth is a lock and Aloiai is a backrower, Sue wasn't overly involved, Grant replaced Mats.

You can't get into him for that high shot, it was hardly careless or reckless, just bounced off the footy.

Thing about Mats is he is one of the few forwards that really sticks with his tackles. I love it, he really flattens the oppositions and he's tidy enough laterally as well, working from marker. His hitups are alright; he doesn't make made metres but that's not the gameplan frankly - none of our forwards are getting much over 100m in any game this year.

The idea seems to be sharing out the work - decent hitups, quick PTB, tackle your ring off, get subbed. 4 blokes rotate and run 70-90 metres, the back 3 stay on as long as possible and hold the middle.

I thought then , that most of our signings had a touch of desperation to them, including LoLo .
And in most cases I still do.

Thankfully I couldn’t have been more wrong about the benefit that Packer amd Thompson have bought to the Club . And I still think that Benjii Has been value
Maybe Reynolds will turn out ok,
But I think it’s just wishful thinking,,
And from what I kept hearing up here, McQueen is at best ,again more hope than anything.

It’s been good to see how last years young guys have improved though.
I’m glad that Ivan has kept them in the team , rather than trying to justify his new signings by playing them,
As for Matulino , he’s nowhere near what he was ,unfortunately

Unfortunately the "old" Benji gets bigger every week, dont get me wrong he still can be useful to the club but due to injuries he is playing regular first grade which he wasnt bought back to do

Agree that Rochows cracks are starting to appear.

Thought RR looked injured today. First time he got tackled he was slow to his feet and looked sluggish from that moment on.

That would explain his lack of intensity when hitting the ball up. He wasn't much chop.

I think the Huth has lost some spark. maybe it's his running style but he doesn't look like he is running with any agro.

He made 55m and you think that's alright?from our Representative prop forward who should have stood up because of the fact that he was the only starting prop.

To my eyes 4 plays lost us that game, 2 from Nofo 2 from Matulino.

Both of them have no one else to blame, Nofos directly led to tries.
Matulinos indirectly but crucial plays at crucial times, when I found out he only made 55m that just topped it off.
Not good enough

Matulino makes his biggest runs when someone else has forced the defence onto the back foot. He does not seem to move the defence back himself.

I have also noticed him fall off a number of tackles. Think Twal has a much bigger updside.
