May’s Minutes

Does Benji need to put his foot down? May obviously wants to play big minutes, which is a good thing, but is it actually benefitting the team? You can make a strong case that the bench is the shit show it is is because May plays 80. If he played 55-60, you’d definitely see a lot more size on the bench. A few weeks ago Benji claimed May was filthy that he came off for five minutes. Is that part of the reason why his minutes are so long, because Benji is too scared, or too matey to tell May it would be best for everyone if he dials it down?

We had a pretty light bench last night. I thought it was so we could play through the middle and tire out the Raiders heavy pack. Not so from what Benji said in the presser. He wanted to cover for Luai coming back from origin and Api as is always the go. TDS didn’t even get on. Different bench management last night.

Its a hard one - i thought as the season wore on his stats would drop due to being overworked. But there has been no drop off whatsoever. However teams are putting more players in the tackle against him which makes his offloads a lot less likely and slows down his play the ball speed. I believe a 10 minute break straight after halftime might be the go.

His output has not been affected. I can attest to that as he’s been in my SC team all year and still pumps out good scores. His punch gets tempered though.

May is great he’s rarely takes a back step, I’m in the camp that thinks 60-70 min mark would be best and he really needs to speed up his play the balls.

However I don’t think his explosiveness is limited to his own ability but other teams prioritising him in D, look how much room fainu has to work worth compared to may. Once our other middles step up their op will have to focus on other middles which will give may some more wiggle room.

Bring him off 10 mins before 1/2 time then back on 10 mins after that gives him plenty of rest, if Hunt could get his fat arse into shape that would provide some impact while he's off if not him give Kit a run or we buy another 1st grade prop.

The team is screaming out for 2/3 more quality forwards hopefully the club can see it too, maybe nothing is out there at the moment good enough to sign up.

Want to avoid the Paul Gallen situation where you get mesmerized by large stats but the efforts are not bothering the opposition as much as you'd think.
