MBYE

The Felise Kaufisi try annoyed me. Mbye was hanging on the right wing for no reason, hense no fullback to assist in diffusing the kick and try defense. He's been playing long enough to know better. Watch the replay and you will see what I mean. I think he is lazy at times and lacks resilience after an error.

Regardless of his cover defense, he chose to bludge near the ruck/wing, rather than get over to diffuse the kick. He's the fullback, that's his job.

You do realise that fullbacks typically place themselves behind the line where the ball is? He wasn't out there for no reason, he was out there because Melbourne shifted hard left the previous play.

You look at that Brooks kick in the first half where Paps had to sprint full-speed (and for him that is fast) to get across to a grubber aimed at the posts - it's because he originally positioned himself where we played the ball.

No way is a FB defusing a bomb that falls short of the line if they have been previously dragged to one edge in defence. If Munster decided to kick back into the corner you needed your FB there.

But a kick that lands in the middle of the field after a shift wide? I'm sorry that's for the middle to sort out. Fullback cannot be in all corners and middle at all times.

Where was the opposite winger coming across in cover? What if they put a grubber instead of a bomb?

Personally I blame the middle defence if a backrower can take a bomb uncontested in the field of play.

does he actually want to play fullback? did he come to the tigers specifically for that role? it seems that he might not actually be enjoying the role....?

Matterson should be captain.

Good point, he is young and reads the play, he is an 80 minute player, makes sense

He's not going anywhere, and I'm a fan of him as a half and possibly centre.

I haven't given up on him as a fullback yet, but getting very close if he doesn't improve quickly.

Thompson is not an improvement, and not sold on Dylan Smith yet.

Dylan Edwards or DWZ could be an improvement at the back though.

My problem with Mbye is he is far too inconsistent and i think the captaincy weighs heavy on him, last week he was in the penthouse this week well you know. I think out of all the fullbacks in the comp he is in the bottom 4 or 5 and for a captain and such a crucial position that isnt good enough.

Robbie SHOULD be captain, doesn't matter if he retires next year HE has the spirit , if not captain he should be co - captain as he does most of the talking anyway

Completely agree, he is in no mans land. And then shows no urgency to get across. Compare that to RP who sprints 30m across to get himself in the best position.

Also, Mbye only missed the tackle at the end cause he was out of permission, then had to over compensate by sprinting across and then when he cut inside got beat easy. The fact is two games have come down to the final play where Mbye has had to make a tackle to win the game and he has missed both cold.

Dylan smith if mbye gets injured

Yeah I've seen enough upside with Smith that I'd be happy to give him a run if Mbye cops an injury. I think he's got Mbye covered for speed and his support play is a strength.

I haven't been to critical of Mbye, and think he has been ok for us at the back.
Last night there was a bomb that went up and Corey T had to sprint across to take it, on the dive, and it was a cracker take. I'm pretty sure Mbye was closer then Corey and would have been a much easier take. But Corey showed the desperation and skill. I'm starting to feel Corey would make a better FB. He didn't do to much wrong when he has been there.

@TheDaBoss Why would you replace a not so good FB with an even worse one?

Dylan Smith is a good prospect...plays for us in Canterbury Cup...@TheDaBoss is suggesting him not Dylan Edwards..

As long as they call for bombs I guess..

Dylan Edwards makes Mbye look like Billy Slater, hands like feet.
