McIntyre System?

Same old problems - how fair is it that Brisbane get to play the minor premiers at home because they won one game.

The game is in Brisbane isn't it? If I was a Brisbane supporter I'd be feeling pretty confident. St George Illawarra have only won 1 game out of their last 5 games…

Yea in Brisbane - under this system week 2 is played in the capital of the winning team - as much as i think its funny for all the Saints supporters who have ordered their GF memorabilia  - the system does suck.

But it doesn't suck that much. You have to win in the finals. Simple as that.

I reckon it's fair. They lost at home, they forfeit their advantage.

based on 1 game through 26 rounds of the season its pathetic and simply unfair

Dragons smashed eels twice won nearly double the amount of games as them . and because of 1 game they lose home field have to go to brisbane then Melbourne if they get that far… and yet the 8th placed eels get a home game

you might as well scrape into the 8 and jerk around all season and get 1 lucky win at the right time and your all set.. it fails this system

I hate it, always have.

AFL system is much fairer for rewarding what a team has done throughout the season.

The McIntyre system seems to be all about 1 game. Eels win one game and suddenly a hot and cold season means nothing and they get a home final, titans lose a game and suddenly a good 26 rds means nothing because they lost one game and are forced to play away from home to a hot and cold team.

The Broncos have been terrible at times this season, they win one game and suddenly they have the advantage over the minor premiers by playing at home.

Melbourne got the week off, if they lost, Manly wouldve had the week off and Melbourne wouldve been eliminated, the same thing happened in 04 and I think that its just stupid that you have to rely on other teams to stay alive or not, you should know the consequences and rewards before you play.

I like the unknown factor of the system. I think it keeps the interest level up not knowing who has made it through to the next round or not. All the clubs voted to keep it this way, if it was that unfair they would have changed when they had the chance.

Look the Dragons finished 1st so they were rewarded by having a home final against the 8th ranked side. If they can't beat the 8th ranked side at home then they deserve to do it the hard way. You can't lose during the finals otherwise you're out or will have to do it tough. That's how it should be. I know it's only one game, SO WHAT??? What if a team are underfeated all year and during the finals but lose in the Grand Final. Should they get another chance just because it's only one game? NO.

NRL and Melbourne Storm now have a problem with ground Availability as the only stadiums they can used for a home final in Week 3 is Etihad Stadium or Melbourne Cricket Ground. Both are unavailable the weekend of 25 and 25 September due to AFL and VFL grand finals at both venues.

whats wrong with olympic park in melbourne?

the afl system is better everyone knows it, its just the NRL pig headness and arrogance that is stopping the finals system being fairer for the better teams during the regular season, if you finish in 5th>>8th you should never get a home game in a finals series under this system

Exactly how i see it. Our finals hopes came down to 1 game this year and we lost it. We didn't get another chance.

I see where everyone is coming from though.

well we flogged the cowboys by 50 in 2005 yet they got another chance at us in the grand final and if they won the GF after we smoked them in week one, no one on here would be saying this system is fair

Yep, that's how I see it too. Saints have had their lifeline by having lost and still being in the finals series. What more do they deserve (and I'm not just saying this because it has happened to Saints).

Yea but the NRL has made such a big deal out of evening the comp up with the salary cap - they shpuld then reward the team that finishes minor premiers accordingly - i acknowledge that any of the top 13 sides could have finished in the 8 but it was inconsistency that prevented 5 of them doing so - the side that was most consistent throughout the year finished 1st but because they lose 1 game in the playoffs they are relegated below the side that finished 6th - and in a far worse position than the side that finished 8th - we may as well scrap the minor premiership as it carries no favouritism for being the consistently best side.
This is why the AFL scrapped the system!!!!!

Hmmm all this whining about the 'System'…..who cares.....firm believer in the 05 model.......keep winning the rest takes care of itself....

when losing gets rewarded it's time to have a re-think......

In the AFL system (5 v 8, 6 v 7) 5 and 6 both play home finals
